Retrofit of third row entertainment controls

Having seen a pair of controls for sale, does anyone know whether it's possible to install these in an 'S' with the standard HK audio? I very much suspect that I will be missing either the wiring to the head unit or the head unit functionality or both.
(Having said that, my Golf in poverty spec. lacks rear speakers, but has the wiring in situ)

thanks,
lex

Without checking, I suspect you would need to fit the 2nd and 3rd row controls and loom, then get them enabled using T4 / WDS, it may also need the amplifier and IHU hardware upgrading. I believe the loom goes to the amp. not the IHU.
Just fitting the 3rd row controls would probably cause the infotainment system to have a hissy fit and throw your CD's out of it's pram... Rolling Eyes

I don't think it would work....as the wiring won't be there.

Interesting about the Golf, ours doesn't even have the cabling.......

Generally, the Disco3 uses control signals to a ECU which then interprets the required action and provides the requested output, vehicles such as the golf use direct control, which is simpler but not as flexible. the Disco 3 also uses modular wiring looms which cuts down on cost and weight whereas the golf uses a composite loom, better for upgrades but increases the base cost and design complexity

Yes, the rear audio jack/control looms seem to be wired to the Logic7 amplifier on my "Premium ICE" equipped vehicle. In North America, we don't get remote controls for the lower trim... so it's possible the Logic7 amplifier may be a technical requirement to allow it. Either that, or it's just a lot of painful work. Very Happy

The Rear controls will only work if you have the full 'Logic 7' Premium sound system, as the audio amplifier is different. I have checked this out on the GTR website, and the 2 amps are different.

Thanks everyone. Your replies confirmed my suspicions.
I will suggest to the rear seat travellers that they bring their own audio entertainment. This will undoubtedly result in a counter request for 2 ipods... Shocked But that'll still be cheaper than a re-wire/re-amp, especially if I can get 1GB nanos.

For those who have suffered or fear heavy-handed abuse of their existing 3rd seat controls, there's a pair on ebay now that prompted my consideration.

Have a bid running on these as a tidy way of providing rear headphone sockets for when we add a DVD.

But if you fit a DVD with FM modulator, you just tune your stereo into the required frequency, and play it through the car speakers. If the kids want to listen via headphones, they've probably already got a personal hifi/radio, and just tune this in. I brought a couple of personal FM radios with headphones for £2 each of a sunday market, and just leave these in the car. I dont care if they get abused for that price. Save the hassle of trying to wire in headphone sockets, and you dont have trailing headphone leads to worry about.
