New ECU ???

Has anybody had their ECU replaced? What were the consequences? Would it change the characteristics of the car? As it is, mine is doing only 17mpg (TDV6 Auto). It doesn't matter how easy or hard I go on the gas, it is the same 17-19mpg. If the garrage can not sort it out I will ask them to replace the ECU. Any advise very much appreciated.

I assume you mean the engine ECU?
Not as simple as swapping boxes, they are individually mapped to the engine at build and continually adapt to changes in the engine.
What mileage have you done?
Could be a problem with the turbo rather than the engine mapping
There is a function within the TR to record the amount of time in each mode, it is suggested that this may be used as 'evidence' to counteract poor MPG claims from owners...

...

I have done 2300 miles and I had a new turbo fitted 2 weeks ago. Stil same low mpg. If there is no improvement, I will have to ask them to do something, even replace the car because this is not normal. To me, the first thing would be to look at ECU and try some amendments, a new SW download, or a new ECU. The next step would be a new engine/car ???

forgot to mention that the engine sometimes does not go over 2500 rpm and can not feel the power coming! I need to wait 3-5 seconds before it gets from 900 to 2-2500 rpm.

the MPG won't improve immediately as the engine will have adapted to the knacked turbo... Rolling Eyes also, the relatively low milage won't help as the engine will still be tight. are you doing lots of short journeys or stop-start journeys?
It might help to give it a squirt along a motorway for 50 miles or so...

U are right! I do a lot of short journeys, and I will try a long trip on M3 to see how it goes. I went to Windsor last week and got almost 23mpg, but as soon as I got into Kingston went down to 17 in a matter of minutes. I will ask the dealer for a new SW download on the ECU and see how it goes.

I've had a disco 3 base 7 seat TDV6 manual on loan for nearly a week. 1,000 miles old and the consumption refused to drop below about 28 mpg.

My own vehicle 2005 MY TDV6 manual with 11,000 strugles to make 22 mpg.

Mine has just had all of the latest software upgrades. I'm going out in it tomorrow and will advise if mpg has improved.

BMW Z3 Blue
MGB GT Red
Aston DB6 Blue

When it's good it's very good, but when it's broken I want my money back.
