Auto Turbo Lag?

Ok here's another... has anyone noticed that when the car is slowing and the accelerated is applied nothing seems to happen for a moment? but if the car is @ a stand still and the accelerated is applied even slightly no problem the car responds. awkward when creeping toward a junction when slowing and someone lets you out into a gap you try and accelerate and there's no movement for a split second. Is this more the auto box taking time to engage an appropiate gear?

You know you’re right !!

I thought I was imagining it, but reading your post I’m nodding my head in agreement.

I’ve also found that if you are pulling out of a blind gateway or junction & you’re creeping out for a look to see if traffic is clear. Then you need to select reverse & get back into the gateway in a hurry, (approaching truck !) the lag & or gearbox takes what seems forever to get you in out of danger. Shocked

Sounds like the lock up process for the torque converter, fairly normal I think but i've got a manual, is it worse when cold?

Yeh hopefully Chris (TC) has a little something something for me next week Wink That said I doubt that will get rid of it just perhaps reduce the lag a little if it is the ECU and not if it's the thegearbox

Yes the auto is lazy to apply power when re-applying throttle. It takes a bit of getting used to. Even from a stand still it is not as instant as a cable throttled, mechanically injected diesel to react.

I reakon that it is just the characteristics of the car. In fact, compared to other TD's - say a Pajero for example - the lag is really short and the torque curve so steep that it seems like the car stumbles whereas with other TD's you get used to the lag so dont notice it as much.

In a similar manner if you anticipate the when you need the power and just gently spool the engine up and then jump on the loud peddle it is like a pocket rocket. In fact the 0 - 60 km is so fast that you can slot into traffic like a slippery fish.
