Ignition Proceedure TDV6 auto - audible "ping"
Ok "oh wise ones" is it me being paraniod on the eve of a long trip to our northern most part of the Britsih Iles......
Noted the following
1)Key in Ignition
2)Turn key to position 1 - nothing
3)Turn to position 2 - warning lights as normal, glow plug light illuminated, message centre displays "system check" (then disappears as normal), then a "ping" when the glow plug light goes out however sometimes the oil light and battery light remain
4) Turn to position 3 - everything as normal, cars starts, however on those odd occassion when battery light and oil light is on, then go off when you put you foot on the accelarator.
Checked the oil this morning, needed 1/2 a litre, and put a tester on the battery as part of my "safety checks" to make sure the trickle feed was working for the trailer (have an on board compressor for the trailers air suspension) drove him around, nothing untoward.
So question, is there an audible "ping" after the glow plug light goes out as standard or am I just being paranoid or is there likely to be a fault signified by the "ping" that is'nt coming up on the message centre

Isn't that the normal system check ping that might just coincide with the glow plugs going out or am I just being thick???

How many miles have you done before you discovered this ping, mine pings when the startup sequence/checks have been completed.
Or is your radio on so loud you can't hear anything else I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

The glow plug light going out at the rough same time as the "ping"might just be a co-incidence, sounds on first impression its me being paranoid, got a very expensive car to collect and take up to professional storage, cant afford to sit on motorway waiting for recovery

Sounds like a name change to Marvin is in order! Enjoy the top part of the country for me Nd hope it is just a day of paranoia. With the problems I've had I'm thinking of changing my login name to jinxed! p
That's just the normal "system check completed" bong - they all do it. Your battery and oil lights will stay on until the engine starts - the battery light tels you your alternator is charging (when it goes out that is) and your oil light goes out when the oil pressure gets up above a minimum value.
My oil pressure light is a bit slow to go out sometimes, which means I get another bong a few seconds after the engine starts. Topped up the oil level by half a litre and it's stopped doing it since then. Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills
