I get the second ping occasionally and I'm sure it happens when the low oil pressure warning light is a bit slow to go out. Topped up the oil last week which seems to hav stopped that now.
It will also ping if the outside air temperature is below 5°C when you start up but it hasn't been that cool up here for a couple of weeks now.Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills

Re: Ignition Proceedure TDV6 auto - audible "ping"

So question, is there an audible "ping" after the glow plug light goes out as standard
Are we talking about a "ping" or a "bong"?
You mentioned the "ping" after the glow plug lamp goes out, but I've always associated it with a "bong" when the air-bag check lamp goes out....
Does this sound right or am I getting confused?
I know the "bong" was removed from later models (MY08+?) but lately I decided to do a test and not wait for it (mine is a MY06) - I now just start the engine when the glow plug light goes out (and before the air-bag bong).....I haven't noticed any difference at all....no rough idling...nothing...2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG

I would say that is correct...I don't get any bings, bongs or pings (there has been the odd pong though...usually after a curry) during the ignition start-up. I was begining to feel a bit left out...The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

I knew there was one more thing I meant to change over when I swapped cars last year. I got all the other accessories off, but left my bong in the old car
Mind you, these tablets are pretty good I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

SWMBO is always suspicious of pings - right from day 1 of D3 ownership she associates pings with 'failures'Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

This is something that I've never really understood.....the D3 uses bongs to indicate errors and also confirmations that things are OK....
Surely it wouldn't have been that difficult to diferentiate them a bit more - maybe a single bong/bing/ping for OK and three short ones for failure and imminent meltdown.
It reminds me of SWMBO...when they say NO, they mean NO.....when they say YES, it usually means NO too 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG
