Engine Faults and Wiring Loom Corrosion |

Hi,
Been having problems with lack of throttle and power loss, numerous warnings and even total engine failure. Car been looked at on several occasions and last visit to garage adviced problem found to be severe corrosion around several loom plugs. Apparently throttle potentiometer loom and plug badly corroded due to water leak which I was unaware of and worst around the engine management module somewhere under the bonnet.
Puzzled how this could happen and told maybe from steam clean during PDI? However, advised this problem may be very difficult to rectify as vehicle loom complex and almost impossible to repair corroded loom plugs?
Has anyone experienced such problems and where would these plugs be located? Seems crazy a vehicle designed to work partially submerged should suffer corrosion from water ingress!
Any help or advise greatly appreciated.

Is this an independant or franchised dealer? Whilst it could be wiring issues, our experiences say its not a common issue in the areas you are describing. More common with similar symptoms are egr and turbo problems. EGR can easily be blanked off to verify if thats the issue, but turbo could more serious.

The modules behind the battery are vulnerable to water. My dealer has had to replace some after jet washing.
More likely the module than wiring. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Thanks for the replies, as far as I am aware they have indicated water has got into the compartment behind the battery (which I have not investigated yet) as a result of pressure washing, and according to the report has badly corroded the module plus the interconnection loom. Whilst they say it is possible to replace the module the problem is the degree of corrosion on the loom plug!
I gather the same applies to the units adjacent to the throttle in the footwell? This vehicle has had a very long history of odd faults and failures for which it has been looked at by the main dealer from day one, the vehicle is now 5 years old and as a result of its last breakdown I had the repairs done by a specialist Landrover garage (partly due to location of breakdown and also for a second opinion and the results is not good).
What I am reluctant to do is pull the thing apart at the risk of these corroded plugs falling apart! At least the vehicle is running okay now but their advise was nobody would be able to guarantee work unless the harness is replaced which I guess is almost impossible to do?

If that is the problem then get a new plug and 12" of loom from a dismantlers / scrap yard and chop the old one off and join wires. If there are CAN BUS wires in the plug then read up on how to correctly join these first.
If it is just pins corroded then you may be able to pull and replace individual pins in the plug.
If its the pins on the modules corroded then you may have other problems to deal with. .

If there is a history of problems see if LR will come up with a solution or at least contribute.

Cheers for all your advice, now seriously considering stripping this lot out to see first hand the degree of corrosion!
Have read the warning about disconnecting the battery and happy with the posting on that issue, however, is there a workshop manual available anywhere as identification of the parts is a problem. Happy to dismantle but never easy to know where sensors and equipment is fitted, any help would be greatly appreciated
New to this forum and so far brill!

It would have to be badly corroded not to be able to be cleaned. If you are going to ahve a go yourself try some contact cleaner and see if it will free it up.
