great guide, managed to replace mine in about an hour and a half tonight but already knew how to get the door card off after doing it yesterday tring to find out what was wrong in the first place.

Same thing happened to me last night, the driver door not willing to lock.
My lock actuator was replaced by the dealer today, just too complicated a job for a woman like me Embarassed
The dealer told me 10 out of 10 disco3 have this problem, also the tail bonnet lock actuator as well (mine was replaced last year). Very upset that these parts on the disco3 so weak and wearing out so fast, mine only has 40000km on it. Thank you again for showing us the procedure of the repair, especially with photos.

This motor is the same (housing and brush carrier) to a very old friend, known by all of us.
Remember Scalextric model cars? From the late 80s I guess till now they carried that mabuchi closed motor.

Even out there there is a pinion extractor, so in case everything went bang, one could swap internal armature and spindle -the heart of the motor- from the old to the new housing.

OK.... looks like a useful guide but I can't get the door to open in order to get the door card off.... can the card be take off from inside the car with the door closed ?

Got exactly the same problem,Passenger side front wont open , How do you get at it if the door wont open ?

Thanks for the guide, I just replaced the driver side, with the vat the part cost about £50 from the dealers. Took me about just over an hour to do.

Once again thanks for the help Smile Im sure it would ahve been a right pain without the guide.

What a great guide - thank you for the effort. I'd previously went "fishing" inside my door pretty much hoping for the best on this fix. One warning (for others who cant help but disassemble unknowingly), be careful not to remove the window winder/regulator engine from its large housing. It comes apart readily but is geared to a certain position which if not returned to will cause the up/down wind to lose the plot.

Changed drivers door lock (good price from TLO) today in about 1h15m but I did have a helper for the window holding and a history of taking of door cards to change speakers in my favour Wink

It looks like my replacement latch fitted a couple of years ago has also started to fail,so looks like even the newer version isn't very robust.Anyone else had a replacement latch fail?

Anyone else using the two presses to unlock setting on the remote? Once for drivers, twice for other doors? I have this turned on with wife's key, but off with mine (all doors). I am wondering if the extra cycles with wife is what caused the drivers lock to fail. Might reprogram her key, she is more getting in with the kids lately than the lone female so not really needed.

ridgeback - should be quicker second time around right? Whistle

Christ I found that difficult. Big Cry

I don't think my short yet stout arms and miniature fingers helped either.

Bits I found hard:

Releasing the plastic grab handle cover = broke 1 clip.

Releasing the bolt on the window guide = covered in loctite and guide is not very strong.

Releasing the far window catch = Wife had to do this bit.

Removing the regulator from the door = Gave up as it was easy enough to move to the side.

Releasing the lock electrical connector = broke the clip.

Re-rigging the cable to the pull handle = took far too long before it suddenly went right in.

Reconnecting the 3 electrical connections to window switches = not enough loom for the space given.

It all works fine but I must be loosing my touch, or just getting old. I had hopped to replace my clockspring and wire-in a bluetooth module too, but I have come out of the gale outside to drink beer and tend to my wounded arms.

Wife was an essential accessory today. Not only for releasing the window catch but for bringing me in for a coffee and a walnut whip when I was close to madness.

Anyway, thanks for the guide as a few days of clambering over the seats to lock and unlock the car was rather tedious. Thanks to Dan @ Duckworth's for getting the lock in (cost £42 all in).
