I went to France a couple of weeks ago and took the lights off at home a few days before I went to see what was involved. Checked 'em once while I was over there as it seemed to me that the beam still pointed quite strongly to the left, but realised on returning to the UK that the opposite carriageway on the M20 was lit very nicely while the lamps were in continental mode.
Comments - 1) the lever is nothing like as clear as shown in the handbook. You can find it much better if you CAREFULLY move the rear of the lamp to one side.. It is actually a little stubby metal fork, which moves a small metal plate lower down by about 40 or 50 degrees.
2) the handbook is confusing as it refers to right and left hand drive countries. We drive on the left in right hand drive vehicles, so is a left hand drive country one where the vehicles or the drivers are on the left? Anyway I went for hand drive meaning which side of the road the cars are on and the lamps seemed right in the end...
3) With a bit of practice I can do the entire adjustment in under 5 mins, but the slidey catches took some work initially..
4) with all the other gadgets on the Disco, I can't see why there isn't either a switch or even just a simple knob to rotate at the rear of the lamp housing for lamp adjustment, it does seem odd that on an up-market vehicle like this, the owner has to take it to pieces to adjust the lights... Any improvement on this in the D4 does anyone know?

With regard to removing the headlight
I've put a light smearing of copper slip on my fixings to great result, however copperslip stains clothes etc
so perhaps a smear of vasealine might be better
either ways simplifies the job
even with A-Bar + lamps

Many thanks for the pointers, I think I may have been staring at the lever without realising that was it.
I'll give it another go.
Cheers

just back from le mans..... no trouble using neither adjustment or tape !!
however i did get the templates (off this site i think) for the tape...then carefully cut the shape from a glossy brochure, stuck duk tape over and shaped it.
in car with a copy of the layout postions...if i got stopped i could apologise profusely and stick them on in front of m. Gendarme
never tested it thankfully
i will pop the headlights soon just to see how its done properly
