Can anyone explain why having a "Talivan" speed camera on a motorway, halfway between two junctions, can possibly be an aid to road safety?
I know I'm not cynical by nature but surely this is purely a money making venture. Perhaps they need the fine revenue to support the Chief Constables expenses.... does he have a moat by any chance?'' Bonatti HSE... Ah yes, a vintage colour!

I still haven't figured out what's 'safe' about putting something on a bridge that causes half the drivers travelling at over 15MPH to blindly hit the anchors. I just love swerving around these a holes who are more afraid of getting a ticket than living, or if there's no manoeuvring room, leaving me no option but to hit the anchors too. And then they've got the front to claim that their figures show that the positions with the cameras are accident black spots. The divots who run this scam should be charged with attempted manslaughter.Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

tell yer what, Thames Valley need to adopt Cumbria's policy:
M6 northbound, junct 42 - 44.
Junction 42 ANPR police car, static on bridge over motorway
Junction 43 VOSA ford galaxy, static on bridge over motorway
Junction 44 Police/VOSA static on slip road to motorway, northbound
Joe public comes along in his ford mondeo with no RFL or Insurance, 1st ANPR police car "pings" then passes details to police car on slip road of junct 44, "get him dano!"
or
Mr Eastern European/Irish plated artic lorry driver comes along, VOSA van things "we'll have em" then police car at junct 44 takes up the pursuit.
All culprits travel under escort to the VOSA station 300 yards up from junct 44, northbound. Day or night, weekday or weekend, there's a fair chance they'll be someone around!
PS use unmarked skoda octavias vrs as well
or on a slack day, ANPR volvo v70 waits at the top of the slip road of Junct 44 southbound, waits till yer get around 300 yards down the road, then "fire up the quattro boys!!" and off he goes.
Moral of this post, "be careful out there" when traveling out of the top of the M6 north or south, weekend or evening, weekday or night

If they're out catching insurance, mot or tax dodgers then I'm all for it and they should have our full support. I also think that real policemen out policing speed enforcement with the authority to use their own judgement and training to ascertain what actually constitutes dangerous driving (for any road conditions) should also be supported and encouraged. BUT those w**kers who support the use of speed camera's while pretending they've anything to do with road safety should be prosecuted for what they've really done. These are clearly positioned and operated solely as a revenue earning tool and the statistics now show many have actually caused multiple accidents. Some might say they were killing people for money! In 2007 the Department for Transport admitted that statistical errors exaggerated the benefits of speed camera's by a huge margin and yet they have chosen to do nothing. Prior to the introduction of speed camera's our roads were getting safer each year - now they have to change the way the figures are compiled each year to disguise the fact that the camera's haven't worked.
