The D3 still amazes me with it's talents daily, yes they might have more niggles than a Pathfinder but to be honest I couldn't care less as the product is miles ahead in all other aspects. 2006 TDV6 SE

Don't forget that many car companies employ marketing companies who use 'web opinion formers' who charge a fee to simply sit on the net all day - and post on forums, and try and steer opiniuon in favour of who is paying their invoices...
It's a widely used and recognised technique - just check out the jobs pages in 'Campaign' the Marketing industry's weekly rag.
I always get suspicious when you get a seemingly one-off post that will ALWAYS name a better version/vehicle/soap powder..
Just possible that SumpCracker has an ulterior motive..?
Go on SumpCracker - reply and prove me wrong...

Are all washing powders and liquids not made by the same company anyway... Lever ? or something ?
Always makes laugh when each ad says its the best ever when at the very end the Lever logo appears on all of them

For what it's worth, 3 years ago I tested quite a number of 4WDs including the old Discovery. In fact I actually went from the Landrover dealer directly to Toyota and tested the Prado Grande on the same day.
The difference was huge. The Prado was much more comfortable and had lots more features. In comparison the old Discovery felt like a truck.
The Prado stood head and shoulders above Mitsubishi, Nissan, Landrover and could actually go off road (which is why the Volvo XC90, BMW and Co where of no interest to me - tested them anyway, though). Plus it was available in Diesel.
A year ago a friend of mine bought the top of the Line Pajero and we swapped cars to see how they compared. After he got out of the Prado, he called his Pajero a truck (and rightly so in my view )
Earlier this year I went to the Melbourne Motor show and looked for 7 seater cars, as the Prado claims to have 8 seats, but the last row is really only suitable for small kids. While I admit that at that stage I had not fallen in love with the looks of the D3, I got in and could not believe the amount of space.
A month or so later I took a testdrive in the D3 and could not believe the difference. All of a sudden my Grande felt like the truck!
I ended up doing lots of research - also on this Forum on the Discovery, and it became fairly obvious that the D3 has had its share of problems at the beginning, but that these seem to be sorted by now. So in fact doing the research here strenghtened my enthusiasm for the D3.
The result is I sold my truck and my D3 has just arrived at the dealer. Looks like I have to convince him to get me the Cooper H/T Plus tyres though, based on Drivesafe's post on tyres.
Not sure how this forum could put anyone off the D3. I have even talked myself into loving its design. And I certainly won't miss those days where I was surrounded by three or four Prados at a Traffic Light
Can't wait to lay my hands on it. Only downside: I'll miss my 180 litre tank and the tyre mounted on the back door (it was so handy for the bike carrier).
Oh, and funnily enough, my Prado was bought by a couple who had tested the new Pathfinder ...
Conspiracies make life more interesting ... Prado Grande --> D3 --> D4 ... its getting better all the time

OK everyone,
I was hoping to share my post in different cicumstances but i could not resist!
Last weekend, I test drove the Audi Q7 3.0 ltr TDI.
it is a car which is branded as a 7 seater, from the inventors of 4 wheel drive...the ride was good and the engine superb. But....I thought the engine was noisier than the one in the D3, the seats (driver one) less comfy than D3, and the 2 rear seats, well if you are longer than 5 inches you can't fit. Most importantly,if you add the same options as on the D3 HSE, it comes to £47.5K. I think this is a case of less for more!
after the test drive, I went straight to the Thames ditton land rover dealer and tested the D3 again. Enough to say that it brought the 'permagrin' on my face!!!!

vertex... I think many will buy the Q7 as its an Audi and massive - no other reason. And I don't believe Audi invented four wheel drive though It was probably an American who did that
So... did you order the D3 or are you still looking ?
If you ordered the D3 we'll no doubt be hearing more from you.
Interesting that the Honest John site refs disco3 for more info.
cheers

Guys
had to join in on the Audi bit. Whilst I was on me hols in France, a german guy on one site we were on had a Q7 (towing a fairly larger Burstner caravan), and I was amazed at how small it was inside, and when i parked my D3 next to, it didnt look big at all, in fact fairly small. Also, he got it stcuk getting up a small incline onto a bridge with the caravan on the back.

I am still debating with SWMBO what colour to go for...hesitating between too many colours (Arctic frost/Buckingham blue/Vienna green or Tonga green). I need to see some with these colours before I make up my mind.
Also, if anyone can recommend a dealer who can offer a really good deal (cash, no part exchange) , that would be welcome.
Finally, is it worth getting the rear lock differential? I will be doing some moderate offroading but I guess the stock diff should do?
