Fixing spare wheel to Expo rack.
I am looking for members suggestions regarding the best way to secure a spare wheel to the Expo rack.
All idea's warmly welcomed

If not used very often, a strong ratchet type strap would suffice,
would leave you with options if you need emergency space, not
saying a good bracket is not the way to go. It's just that these
type of straps have become a must item on trips as are cable
ties ( zip ties ) and duct tape ( could be gaffer tape ) in my
off road kit. If a permanent mount, go with the bracket, be
sure you can lock it D3 bullbar-spots-roof rack with spots-ladder-long range tank-swing out spare wheel carrier- upgraded tow bar-dash console-internal water tank-duel awnings-drawer system & T T.
Ray Mount vote from me - Mine is in transit, but I've seen one and they are very good and lockable. Ratchet straps are ok for unplanned loads, but a proper fixing is a hell of a lot more secure. Think of the forces when a 30kg (??) Wheel is subjected to a emergency stop from say 70mph "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Stu, I'm going to mount mine on a G4 floor too, so is that just bolted through the alloy sheet or are they bolted through into the channel of the rack floor - or drilled through ?
Last question - honest Any reason you mounted it centrally? I was going to off-set mine to fit on one sheet."To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

I drilled right through flooring and cross-bar of the expo - with the rack off the car. Then found out I couldn't take the mount off without taking the rack off again It did make it nice and strong though
Even centrally it doesn't leave much room down each side, I dont think you'll get it on one sheet. Pop a wheel up and take a look.Disco 5 HSE Lux

You can use a Front runner (or most of the flat top expedition type roof racks) wheel bracket, held in place by two bolts. On the G4 expo rack you will have to pre drill the holes thro' the honey comb board so that you can use the rail slots to secure the bracket. The G4 rack floor will not be strong enough to take the bracket, you must use the rail slots. or fit a rear spare wheel carrier , which saves you breaking your back trying to get the spare upstairs

One on the back and one with Tri strap (ratchet); did 4500kms off road and no probs at all; everyone else in the group had same as me.
