Hi Dunc,
I have a 45ltr tank in the defender, strapped to the rear wheel box with a 12v pump and shower head attached.
bought it from boab but any decent chandlery or caravan place should sort it out though..bout 90 quid for the tank i think.
Dont know how much you want to carry but think about how you fill it when your in the middle of nowhere.you dont want to be filling a small bottle from a tap and jumping up and down from the rack like a mountain goat.
Also having that much weight slooshing around on the roof wont be great even if its half the size...as the tank empties, all the water moving on corners will affect the handling..even on the rear wheel boxes in mine aint ideal. "you cannot teach stupid people to do clever things"

My D3 came with no 3rd row seats (just what I needed). I had a stainless tank made for where the 3rd row headrests would have been. It's perfect for 40 litres (but found out the hard way that if some SWMBO leaves the valve open then it takes about 42 litres to flood the interior up to the bottom of the computer (whew) . Having the weight low is really helpful if doing any slope work.
