`taping` xenons for europe travel
i know the xenon adjustment for europe is much discussed here in the past,,,, but i cant face taking the lights/grille off and on for my two upcoming french trips, nor do i wish to give LR dealer 4 X £whatever
can anyone tell me if a bit of black tape like the old days will A) help a bit B) keep le flic happy C)melt horribly to the plastic lens ?

I can categorically say don't bother to adjust. Ive traveled many times and never bothered and never been flashed.

me too, leave as they are, although technically naughty, you'll be fine. Just carry a roll of electrical tape just in case.

Came back from a trip to the battlfields and eurodisney last week and drove a lot of miles, some in Paris. Never adjusted the lights or anything and had no problems.
However I did have a pack of the stick on beam converters in the boot just in case I got stopped but no hassle at all.
(apart from some in a camper van over my side of the road that smashed the door mirror glass) I have something to say! It's better to burn out... than to fade away!

Did 3000 miles down to Spain and back, quite a lot of it done through the night, and never flashed. No adjustments done. You can always claim to plod that you have done it anyway - take a printout of the instructions to show you have done it TDV6 HSE Lux (2014MY)

Does tape over the outside even work with xenons anyway?
My understanding is that the beam shape is formed within or behind the inner lens, unlike halogens where the shape of the beam (in part at least) is formed by the internal shape/ribs at the outer lens?
I wouldn't if I were you. The projector design is such that tape will me approx. naff all difference, plus the adhesive may well damage the lense. Seriously, taking the grille off takes 30 seconds from pulling the bonnet release. Each headlamp takes another 30 seconds to remove and perhaps 60 seconds to remove the cover and flick the lever. 5 minutes will be ample to do both lamps and refit the grill
Unless you have an A-bar and driving lamps......
Anyway, back on track. Because the lever simply moves a blind across the lamp, you can switch it over in the UK without you risking blinding UK drivers - The NS of the beam pattern will simply be cut short. If you really want to be compliant, that's all it takes.

How do you get your headlamps out in 30 seconds ND? Mine takes ages of bashing the clip to free it off end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......
1) Always give the slides a damn good wipe before you put them back in - oil no good as it collects the dust that causes them to jam

I do the same.....obviously don't have quite the right aggressive attitude, must try harder
oh, I don't bother changing them for France either and I am over there a lot!!!end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

I'm going to France next month, so had a look at the back of my Adaptive Xenons to see what was involved.
The lights were a bit tough to get out, but with some well aimed maintenance spay I got the vertical clips to move. I took the covers of the back of the bulbs as per other pictures posted on the site, but honestly couldn't work out what to do, I couldn't see any levers to move up or down on either unit.
I put them back on an resigned myself to the fact that I would leave them and claim I had done it already if stopped.
But if anyone has a good picture on where the lever is on the adaptive lights I'd be happy to have another go.
