I never asked for a good will gesture - this was something that the girl in Service Dept suggested I do (ie, phone up LR cust services and ask about it). Nothing has been agreed as yet as they haven't diagnosed the problem. But in these days of recession and poor car sales, car manufacturers must do everything they can to mitigate the risk of customers walking out of their forecourts and showrooms and buying somewhere else.

Some of the comments above smack of sour grapes. Alas, if you are getting worked up about it and feel that I, or anyone else for that matter, are getting 'something for nothing', then that's your problem and your problem alone. I'm just amazed that LR owners find it hard to grasp the fact that sometimes in life, you have to give a little to gain a lot. Simple things like a contribution towards a faulty part (of which this has been a major bug bear of LR for some time now), could see me purchase a new model from my local dealer. For the sake of a couple of hundre quid, that's a drop in the ocean compared to the revenue that would be made from a new sale plus the servicing that would follow.

Compressors do fail, mainly if the car gets jacked up on the case / bracket.

Buying from a dealership would almost certainly have bagged you a warranty.

I'm not a mechanic, but I do know how to hold a spanner. Unfortunately, the issues the local garage had with replacing the rear drums/discs and pads, with the set up that is required afterwards, put me off attempting to try the fronts myself.

I've found through experience that all these things are very easy if you have the right tools and the time to do it in. Best left to the trained individuals in my view, unless it's something simple like an old Fiesta or Mini
