Anyone had a 'good will' gesture from LR customer services? I've developed a suspension fault, most likely compressor, on my 05 TDV6S. On calling my local dealer, they said to contact the head office about good will gesture. They said they take into account things like servicing etc.
With a new compressor the guts of £500, how much do you think I may get in good will gesture? I have dropped in to the conversation that I'm thinking about trading in for a LR4 If in doot, flat oot!!

2005 - Goodwill will be a % and will be based on their guidelines + more than likely a conversation with service at your dealership. Are you a good customer, how's the car been. have you had it serviced regularly, miles etc etc etc.
How long is a piece of string.
What is a LR4 Have you moved to the States ? "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

You might get more response if you call it a Discovery 4 I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Yes, but when my last car was only 2 months out of warranty. I had a goodwill gesture from Guy Salmon Stockport, for a new steering wheel and a park brake adjustment.
I had however, had the car serviced by them from new, and I had also developed a very good relationship with the dealership, which involved a lot of give and take from both sides over the time I owned the vehicle.
Why do you think a goodwill gesture should be made?

Purchased it from a non-LR garage down near Londonshire. I live NE Scotland, and haven't spent a Scottish dime in my local dealer. But it's got a FSH and is on about 55k. Think it's LR Cust Services that dictate the level of good will.
As for why I think a gesture should be made.... well, I don't. I'm more hoping I don't have to shell out the full amount. But my logic is that this was/is such a known issue with Disco3, that in reality, they should have had a recall and replaced them after the realisation that the compressors were useless.
Having a bit of a wake up call with the ownership of my particular model. Many things have one wrong with it since I purchased it less than year ago. None of which are very cheap to fix, not least the discs/pads.... about £700 and that was at a local indy garage, not the local £80p/hr franchised dealer!! Ho hum.... If in doot, flat oot!!

When my wife's TD4 FL was just over 3 years old the fuel pump in the tank packed in. Lakeland agreed to look at the car very quickly even though they hadn't sold it to us or serviced it. They also got onto LR because they thought the pump shouldn't have failed. I ended up paying for the labour only and got a full refund on the pump. That is what a good dealer will do for you. I even towed the FL up there behind my Mercedes ML that I had. Yes I know a traitor but I didn't have it long and although it was an excellent towcar and good allround it was very expensive to own because of high brake wear etc. I had the car from new, did 18,000 miles in 16 months and dropped £16k on it in that time!!!!!!!! Jason Hadwin at Lakeland did make me test drive a D3 at the time and very nearly sold me one but I was offered one through the trade at too good a price to refuse. They will certainly get a shot at supplying my D4 when I eventually buy it. Honestly Marge, I wouldn't have done it if I thought you would find out!

Why should LR make a goodwill gesture to anyone whose money hasn't gone to them either directly or indirectly from initial purchase. If you buy second hand and out of warranty it's likely your money has gone to Joe Bloggs.
I'd tell you to where to go EDIT...in the nicest possible way of course 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Why would LR make a gesture of goodwill whatever the case? It's called customer service. If nobody wants a used model because the service and reliability is rubbish then the sales for new models aren't as bouyant. There are LR dealers who just sell LRs and there are dealers where LRs are in the blood. I've rarely bought a LR from someone who hasn't got them in their blood. Honestly Marge, I wouldn't have done it if I thought you would find out!

Brakes are consumables and do cost money. They can also be done easily by anyone who can hold a spanner the right way round.
Compressors do fail, mainly if the car gets jacked up on the case / bracket.
Buying from a dealership would almost certainly have bagged you a warranty.
Good luck getting it sorted. "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

Just as well you're not the CEO of Land Rover then isn't it With an attitude like that, you'd have everyone heading to BMW, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, VW and Audi garages in their hordes.
I never asked for a good will gesture - this was something that the girl in Service Dept suggested I do (ie, phone up LR cust services and ask about it). Nothing has been agreed as yet as they haven't diagnosed the problem. But in these days of recession and poor car sales, car manufacturers must do everything they can to mitigate the risk of customers walking out of their forecourts and showrooms and buying somewhere else.
Some of the comments above smack of sour grapes. Alas, if you are getting worked up about it and feel that I, or anyone else for that matter, are getting 'something for nothing', then that's your problem and your problem alone. I'm just amazed that LR owners find it hard to grasp the fact that sometimes in life, you have to give a little to gain a lot. Simple things like a contribution towards a faulty part (of which this has been a major bug bear of LR for some time now), could see me purchase a new model from my local dealer. For the sake of a couple of hundre quid, that's a drop in the ocean compared to the revenue that would be made from a new sale plus the servicing that would follow. If in doot, flat oot!!

I'm not a mechanic, but I do know how to hold a spanner. Unfortunately, the issues the local garage had with replacing the rear drums/discs and pads, with the set up that is required afterwards, put me off attempting to try the fronts myself.
I've found through experience that all these things are very easy if you have the right tools and the time to do it in. Best left to the trained individuals in my view, unless it's something simple like an old Fiesta or Mini If in doot, flat oot!!

LandyLad, I suspect that the issues that your local indy had on the brake setup were more from the fact they didn't read the instructions in my gallery
Seriously, they're not difficult to do, but as you say, do require setting up, which is actualy mechanically very simple (no I'm not a mechanic, but can hold a spanner & a Hammer (sometimes get confused over which one to use though..... )
As for seeking gesture of goodwill, there is NEVER any harm in asking LR, regardless of whether anyone else thinks you are or aren't entitled to it.
Good luck & let us know the outcome.
BTW, you can replace the compressor yourself, get a price for supply of the unit at discounted price from Yeovil Landrover parts, speak to Nick and mention disco3.co.uk and you'll be suprised what can be achieved.
There are some instructions posted on here from others that have changed them Bodsys Brake Bible
