XS. There's loads in the dealer network, so I can have one "in the next two weeks" (only options I want/can't live without are towing electrics and full length roof rails, which are both dealer fit-able). Looked at GS plus extras (not bothered about leather) but that was factory order, 0% finance might not be around, grumble, grumble... they really wanted to sell me a car now, not a GS in a couple of months, so the deal on the XS plus the lead time on the GS (ie new tyres on my D3 required) made this the most sensible option - even SWMBO could see that!

the 'big expense coming up we need to swap' strategy has worked for me a few times Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

After my extensive cost benefit analysis, carefully presented at the far end of a bottle of wine late on Friday night, rather than tell me where to go, as I'd expected, Mrs R actually pointed out a few things I'd missed, e.g. depreciation should be lower on D4, interest rates can only get better, and so on... Didn't spend too much time arguing after that

Funnily enough, my justification was based on more or less the same principles. Looking at a new compressor, new tryes, service not too far down the road as well as MOT. Plus there was a few other minor things about my D3 that were bothering me.... all in all, go blast 36k on a new one. Alisdair Darling has nowt on my financial misgivings If in doot, flat oot!!

I love this! The exact same thought processes are being replicated round the country... D3 coming up to 3 years old, bound to start racking up maintenance costs, perfect time to swap it in - even for a neglible trade in value - against a D4. But I still have nagging doubts: is it worth it? Would a used FFRR Vogue be better? Test drive tomorrow... my willpower may yet capsize.

Dropped off reg transfer paperwork today... it's ready to leave the factory, Santorini Black with Arabica leather. Will get the good camera out once the car appears, if we're not swamped with interior shots by then of course
