He must have insisted you had a bottle of your favourite surely.
A couple of years ago central line was down an I gave a friend and several other city strangers who happened to be standing next to her at a bus stop ( including a chartered accountant for a big paying firm and a lawyer) a lift to epping. I was in my run around neon at the time and must have appeared to be on hard times as its clapped out and its suspension was clealr compromised by being about six up.
Naturally I was going to refuse any offers to pay for my petrol.
BUT i DIDNT GET ANY.

1] dump the locking nuts.
2] have a solid 3 ton trolley jack.
3] have an SM adapter.
4] have a crossbrace to spin nuts off [when loosened].
5] for comfort, use your grannies old rug for kneeling/laying on.
oh, and plenty of coppergrease .... of course.

Cut a bush down in his garden though
Was a straggly affair hanging over our boundary which WE wanted rid of
SWMBO suggested we trim it for him whilst he was busy mowing his lawnSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

This goes back to DG's 'discussion' point (which never took place).
Was this a selfless act or a selfish one?
Ron - did you do this for no other reason than; 'because you wanted to help a fellow D3er' (selfless), or did you do this because you wanted to feel good about yourself and look good to others (selfish)?
Interesting Freudian style of discussion point about human nature........ The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Ok the Freudian analysis.
Firstly, I never gave it a thought as to why I decided to do this.
I saw that the guy had a potential issue that he knew nothing about.
So I just did it!
Now that I'm being asked to analyse and explain my reasons I would say it is most definately SELFLESS.
Would I have done this if it were an ordinary car - No!
Would I have done this if it were another 4X4 - No!
Would I have done it if it were another Land Rover marque - No!
I reckon it was a combination of things:
It was a fellow D3 owner.
I was able to impart D3 knowledge if required [as it was].
Changing a D3 wheel for a normal person [unused to it] could be quite daunting
I had a suitable jack local in my garage and available [normally stored away in my unit].
I'm a dab hand at quick & efficient D3 wheel changes.
I was in my slightly grubby clothes having packed up all the caravan equipment earlier, the chap was in his casual saturday gear [he only put on a pair of decent looking boots to go out and have a go].
So there you have it, a combination of all the above.
As I said, a selfless act, not selfish!
TF that's sorted
Would I do it again - to F k NO !! -
not after the grilling as to why I did it. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.
