12 volt sockets
New to this site and have not owned my Discovery3 for long so still finding new things!
Wonder if anyone can help, I have 4 auxillary 12 volt sockets, 2 in the front, 1 in the rear seats and 1 near the rear door, none of these are 'live' without the key turned to position 1.
Is this normal? Is there any way to make them 'live' all the time?

Is there any way to make them 'live' all the time? there is but you risk not been able to start the car unless you fit a 2nd battery system

Surely if there is nothing plugged into the sockets then the battery won't go flat?
How do you go about having the sockets power on all the time. I'm sure I've had cars in the past where the socket is always powered.D3 HSE MY05 Auto

You can connect a line to the fusebox then to whichever socket you want live. ISTR there is a way to do it once so all will be live, but you do need to be cautious if you leave anything plugged in.
If you search on +12v +socket +live you will get several results.

Agreed, but how many of us leave mobile phone chargers or other stuff plugged in without thinking, standard electrics on a D3 stop problems being caused by actions such as this.

Welcome to the site
Very easy to get the sockets working all the time
Drop down the lower glove box to reveal the fuse box
Remove this relay from fuse box
Put in a link wire ..like this

You will then have permenant power to all 3 aux sockets ( not ciggy lighter ...this still requires ignition on position 1 ) . The 3 sockets are still protected by there original fuses .
I have a GPS speed camera connected to 12v and an iphone charger ..these are on all the time and i can leave my car at the airport for 2 weeks with no ill effects .
Biggest worry is if you leave the ignition on ..this then activates alot of the cars electrics ..this is were people get into trouble ...although i can quite happely leave my car ignition on position 2 for a good 3 hour without any worries .G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Hi all. I was just wondering how easy would it be to fit 12v outlet in the rear loadspace? Got base level tdv6 my06, blanking plate is where 12v shoud be i think -on left near light panel. Do i need relay and fuse etc?D3 bonatti grey

open up the left rear cubby door and get a torch ..look up the top for a 2 pin plug (purple & black wires ) ...it should be there ( maybee tucked out the way ) ...if so you only need to buy a socket from LR ( or another make )
Pop in the socket ( remove blanking plate ) and connect the 2 pin connector G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Mine was "tucked up"! It had foam round it and was taped to other wires! I've had mine from new so presume their all like this

I to would like to add a 12v socket to the rear load area, i have seen the photos added and have located the purple and black wires however the wires in my Disco seem to dissapear up behind the front of the cubby box. I do not want to pull on the wires for fear of ripping them apart. Any ideas?
I have also seen a green and white set of wires tucked up with foam around the socket does anybody know what these are for?

Just reviving an old thread,
Wiggs,i am going to be doing the above mod but i want to use the Aux battery so was going to run a feed from it to the relay sockets in the glovebox but got a few questions,
1:- Which of the terminals do i insert the 12v feed from the Aux batt?
2:- Do you happen to know what rating of fuse/wire i should use?I know that the Acc sockets are fused seperatly but i want to fuse the feed for peace of mind.
