CTEK BATTERY CHARGERS/CONDITIONERS

Hi

Has anyone used a CTEK trickle type charger on their Disco 3/4 ?

If so what model have you bought/used ?

Also, is there any possibility they can cause damage to ECU's and other electronics ?

Any advice gratefully received. Thumbs Up

I'll tell you on Monday or Tuesday when it arrives Laughing

It's Slimer's fault....he made me buy it Evil or Very Mad

To be honest the price meant that it took me two months to justify buying it, but it will work a treat on all of the batteries I need to keep in tiptop condition Thumbs Up

I don't know if this helps but I have a few cars and each one is kept conditioned with a CTEK XS800, one is garaged the others outside and they are all in the fully charged green mode even after the freezing weather. I have not used it on the Disco but it has kept two big powerful sports cars plus another couple of cars fully charged up. For those that don't know the cable is in two parts, the battery end is short with a waterproof connector that fits onto the longer lead that goes to the charger and then on to the plug, I wanted to leave the battery end attached to the battery without having to open up the bonnets to disconnect, so I had an extra length of cable fixed to the battery lead end extending it so that the cable can be pulled out from the windscreen end of the bonnet still attached to the battery (it has a waterproof cap that fits on it) when not in use just tucked out of the way under a wiper where it is not seen. What I did do was to make up a laminated card for each car that I put under the wiper to remind me, otherwise I could drive off with the wire still connected, you could do anything similar such as tie something to the steering wheel, unless you have a great memory that I don't Razz

I hope this helps, I see in the link below that they are now only about £37 or so, further searches may find them cheaper. They are waterproof, but all my charging units are in the garage with any cars outside fed by their thin black cable unobtrusively (is that a word?). (The battery end comes with two options, crocodile clips or hard wire to the battery option)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-XS800-Battery...B000RI2B70

By the way, Lidl I think it was did something similar and were selling it for £12 or so, so a google search or ebay may find one.

Cheers,

I found a site that explains in more detail and also sells the options of more leads, again hope this helps. Please note that I use my XS800 for keeping the batteries topped up and conditioned, although it does charge from dead it is a slow charger and not a fast charger, so please read the details in the link or talk with other forum members who have them before deciding what suits you Wink

What you are guaranteed to have is a fully charged battery all the time.

And another here:

*This is a NEW CTEK battery connector lead end that gives you a constant reading of the battery condition, I only found it tonight so will buy a few to update my others Wink

I've got thr XS7000 and it's great. I bought it for it's "Supply Mode". Our caravan once suffered a power supply/battery charger failure, leaving us without electrics for a week. The XS7000 can do the same job so if it happens again, I can plug this is in and continue to have a power supply to the van.

It'll also recondition batteries and did a superb job in resurrecting our tintent's battery when our local repairers managed to completely flatten it by leaving the battery master switch on for 6 weeks Evil or Very Mad

Hi

I think I'm going to order the XS3600. I would like to go for the XS7000 but it appears it's only available with the crocodile clamps and I want the semi-permanent eyelet type, for easier connection.

Just checking does anyone have the XS7000 with the eyelet type connectors ?

FISHY, just change the connectors for the ones you want when the charger arrives.

Wiggs, these are worth looking at, same as the one i have that the dealers use.

I got mine from here a few years agao BUT its 110V which isnt a problem for me in the workshop and is probabaly safer for me kicking it arround when in mood Whistle

Hi Pete

Thanks for that. Thumbs Up Just checking if anyone has already used the XS7000 with the eyelet connectors because on the Vertar.com link above it only mentions the eyelets for use with the lower models up to the XS3600, even if you buy the eyelet connectors as an accessory.
