Hi Pete,
I know it seems like it but I've tried all the different routes and after being advised by my mate who has a Road Haulage business to try it I have to admit it is quicker. It's some where in the region of 10 miles further than the Edinburgh route but dual carriageway almost all the way now. During rush hour on the return journey there are very few hold ups.

Ok I'll try it next time, I go edinburgh,A68, A697, A1, A689,A19,then down to whitby. I do Aberdeen -Whitby in +/- 6hrs 324 miles I must admit I like the back roads especially in bad weather. Club Pie n Pea

Pete,
I do Aberdeen in about the 6 1/2 hours with out the dangers of idiots overtaking blindly on the A68 when you get behind the trucks or tractors. It's a lot less stressful than the A68. Only problem at the moment is the A73/74 road works which can be a bit slow during the rush hour but this surely can't go on for much longer..Can it.

Agreed I avoid the A68 and use the A679 (military road) not as many idiots and lots of overtaking opportunities, strangely all the lorries tend to use the A68 and stay off the A697 which is another reason why I don't like the 68, can you send me the route you use in full and I'll try it next time
