Tow Bar?

Anyone got a factory fit tow bar on their D4?

If so what wheel sizes are also fitted & did you manage to get a full size spare wheel + the tow bar? (some dealers are suggesting that the tow bar bracket means the full size spare does not fit - it did on the D3 though, so I wonder if it is just the 20" wheels it causes a problem for?)

tow bar

my dealer took the fixed towbar off my D3 & put it on the D4 with no probs. & I have a full size spare. The electrics from the D3 wouldn't go on the d4 though.

pko thanks. When you say fixed tow bar is this the factory fitted plug in removeable one? 19" or 20" wheels? Sounds as if the way round is to get the dealer to post-fit the tow bar - was there any problem getting electrics etc fitted & activated by the dealer with the D4?

Cannot see why the size of the wheels should be an issue (unless using oversize tyres) the total diameter and therefore rolling circumference is the same on a 17" wheel and tyre as it is on a 20" wheel and tyre.

Sounds like the dealer might be have a b Censored t moment Rolling Eyes Thumbs Up

Also not sure that any of the tow bars for the D3 are factory fit, they can all be fitted/removed by the owner, obviously the fixed one takes a bit longer than the quick release one, obviously your dealer will be delighted to charge you an hours labour to 'fit' a towbar, probably the easiest money they will make (and you will waste) Thumbs Up

My towbar is the variable height one, not the removable one, & my wheels are the 19 inch ones. There was a back order for the D4 electrics, but this was back in Sept. The dealer didn't seem to have a problem fitting the electrics as they were all done ready for collection of the D4.

Wonder if the issue is the quick release tow bar - dealer is adament that it's brackets obstruct the full sized spare wheel! Anyone got a D4 with full sized spare + the quick release tow bracket?

I was basing my comment not on D3 experience but on a D4 HSE with quick release tow bar on that i saw in my local dealers earlier this week!

Thumbs Up

SJR - thanks - did you notice if it also had the full sized rather than space saver tyre. Would be a great help if you could PM me the dealership so I can flag up it with some authority!
Thanks

It was on a customers car, not in the showroom, and i did not notice what type of spare it had, but it was definitely a quick release tow bar and was running 20" wheels.

Maybe if you rename the thread you might attract more specific response, 'tow bar' may be a bit vague and mean some who may be able to help are not looking at the thread Thumbs Up

Hi
I have a D4 with full size spare (19") and the factory fit removable tow bar and it all seems to fit to me Smile
Not sure where the problem would be as there is nothing visible with the towbar removed & I can't see there being much to foul anything even with it fitted.

Edit
Just saw Winger response in other thread - missed it before I responded here Embarassed

Tow Bar

I was going to fit an aftermarket to the D4 I have just ordered but the dealer threw is a Tow Pack and said the D4 come with an intergrated Tow Bar and the tow pack contain the ball to connect.

Does anyone have a pic of this / can confirm this is correct as the Australian brochure doesn't mention this
