I have been considering a new ride for next year, and have been expecting a call from my LR dealer to go test drive the new D4, but Have not heard a thing.
What are peoples experiences from their local LR dealer, Are they getting of their ass and trying to promote the new D4, or are they just sitting back and wishing for their old buyers to come to them.
As a rule I don’t sell cars to myself and will most likely use a national fleet buyer, who by the sounds will get a much better deal out of a larger city dealer.. Trust me, what could go wrong?

Here they're sitting back.
Last time I visited a Perth dealer they knew that I was selling my car and even let the potential purchaser look at the car and ask questions about it whilst the car was in the workshop (without asking me first mind you; and I hadn't even told them someone was interested!). Salesmen idle around the showroom, not even saying hello.
They basically confirmed what I already knew, which is they don't believe they have to work for a sale; and that I, as a customer, was not important to them.
One of the major reasons that I thought I'd try a Porsche! Have a nice day!

In Sydney I found that before the official launch one dealer was playing it cool, only offering a test drive at launch and not in the model I was interested in.
The other dealer, Purnell Motors provided at request following my registering on their website about D4 in September product specs, pricing and model availability. I was able to have a test drive the 2nd day they had a their first car arrive and took deliver of an August build 2 weeks later. They also offered a trade-in on a TDV8 sport that was beyond private market rate and including some repair needed on the alloys, a bumper scratch and a broken tail light ( happened the weekend I decided to sell!)
I dealt with the dealer prinicpal initially then with the sales manager and both were helpful, courteous, not sales sharks like some others and made the process a pleasure. I have had a follow up call after delivery, a welcome gift and will receive 10% of service and parts including a courtesy car whilst in service.
Going back to the first dealer who was slow, they acted surprised when I told them on a follow up call that I had purchased. If only they had shown some interest in an early test drive I would have at least considered what they had. Snooze you lose!
Also very excited about the drive day included down at Mittagong in January First taste of real dirt so hope to get to test out the upgrades to the TR D4 Zermatt Silver TDV6: Premium Nav, Front Park, Bi-xenon, Hi-Ice, 7 Seat, dark as legal window tint. MAXTRAX, small shovel, snatch and shackles. ARB Portable Compressor, Bushranger X-Jack. Lovely new set of Cooper AT3's ready for action…Opposite Lock Colour Coded Bar, Runva 11XP Winch, ARB Awning, Safari Snorkel, Traxide Dual Battery System, Rhino Platform Rack & Accessories

Purnell have been on the ball sales wise.

There's no interest in me...I live to far from a dealer for them to be able to service me, and the real money is in the serviceing department.
Having said that, I've just been to Broome to have the brake recall work done at Shinju Nissan...they are a LR service agent...and I recommend them for customer service if nothing else. The side benefit is you get a great holiday while your car is serviced.
Should i get another one while I'm in Karratha, they will be my service agents...even if my young bloke is a mechanic...just for the holiday

Strange that the dealers spidey senses didn't alert them to the fact that you want to look at the new Disco
Have you gone to see them yet??

Back in December when I was shopping for a D4, my closest dealer (<3 kms away) was absolutely useless for following up my phone calls despite a test drive with them, negotiating a price, and telling them I needed to finalise by the end of the week. They still have 2 unanswered messages asking them to call me back (I was going to arrange a time to finalise the sale!).
So I rang Trivett in Parramatta (30 minutes drive away) and they did me a deal. Great service. Good price. No hassles.
I have used car brokers (eg PrivateFleet) in the past and have been extremely impressed that most of the time they can get a really good price. I have managed to better it once or twice, but not by much.
When Land Rover Australia rang to follow up I let them know how poor their dealership in Artarmon was doing in the sales department. Suzuki Vitara 3dr

Alto was useless when my cousin wanted a D3 (my/June this year). He went to Purnells instead who were great and talked turkey on price and he bought.
Grant (ex service) is now a salesman there and has been good so far with me (looking at a D4 possibly) he has folowed up with phonecalls and has offered a two day test drive. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

eddomak-
I sold cars for 8 years and have managed used car yards for 2 years and if I had done what you describe I would of been sacked on the spot. What blows me away is that a salesmans retainer is not worth getting out of bed for as you could earn the same money pushing trolleys for 40 hours a week, so why wouldn't you be keen to do everything possible to sell a car and earn some commission???

tomtba-
I so wish that they would have done their job, and still can't understand it. If the sales dept had been up to the job I would rather be 3 minutes away and have the use of their car wash bay (with pressure sprayers) than need to drive 30 minutes out of my way to another dealer.
Oh well, it's a free market out there, and I've taken my money to someone who deserves it more than they do. Suzuki Vitara 3dr

Hi You all
So far you've spoken about purchasing vehicles from dealers - what about a recommendation for servicing the D3
I'm in Wangaratta Vic - and able to go to Albury NSW or to Melbourne or any place in between for a good service centre - especially one set up with competent auto electricians.
Any recommendations would be appreciated

I get mine serviced by a local LR specialist , Graeme Coopers because I know they will do the right thing and also as I am a member of the Range Rover Club NSW they know if they do the wrong thing everyone will know.
Why dont you talk to members of te RRC of Vic (I think we have one or two members on the forum) and see who their sponsors are, and maybe look at getting the vehicle serviced with them.
