AA Warranty - the lowdown

Spoke to a very helpful chap at the AA this morning to discuss warranty options as my 3 year landrover one is about to expire. Now that Tesco option is dead, looking for the next best thing.

Lowdown on the AA warranty is:

5 Star
====
Includes wear and tear up to 50k
Maximum of £3000 per claim. Limit is market value of car during policy
Includes turbo, air con, ABS - no catalytic converter
Can use main dealers, but have to check before booking in
Can be paid for using interest free option (12 months or 24 months for 2 year option)
One year = £312
Two year = £520

Option of full breakdown cover to be included for £70 per year

This policy has a specific list of things covered (check website)

Gold
===
Includes wear and tear
Maximum value per claim is limited to market value of car
Price includes full breakdown cover
Can use main dealer
Includes
Includes turbo, air con, ABS - no catalytic converter
Covers cars up to 60k

£469 for one year (remember includes breakdown cover that costs £70 on other policy)

The policy has specific list of things not covered - check website. (note that website comments about not covering turbo etc are not correct. Only thing not covered is catalytic convertor.

This policy seems to be very comprehensive.

====================

So the big question is which one?

Like for like we get:

5 star - £312 + £70 (1 year plus breakdown) = £382
vs Gold £469

Difference of £87

Does anybody have any views / claims experience with either? Any advice you can offer as I need to purchase next week. Thanks.

I have AA Prestige warranty, I have made one claim in the 3 yrs I have had it, it was hell to make a claim and they fought and riggled to get out of paying until i informed them the insurance ombudsman had taken my case up,all for about £340 worth of work, Main dealer was not an option, I was advised to take it to a small garage in my local town, they have a list of garages, if you want to use any other including main dealer you have to pay the extra hourly rate above what they will pay, can't remember what it is now.
I did get them to agree to TFC doing the work which was a massive bonus as far as I was concerned but they did put a ceiling on the payment they would give him.
Wasn't a great experience but was the alternative ?.

What's on the paperwork means nothing if the claim experience is a complete nightmare. My 2 Tesco claims have been good experiences.

What job did TFC do for you Mark and was it something that should clearly have been covered in the AA cover paperwork?

I have taken the "Gold" warranty @ £460. This includes their top spec breakdown cover as well so price wise is not too bad. For this level of cover, I get to use Landrover main dealers rather than their nominated ones. We'll see what happens - hopefully no claims will be necessary.

I'm struggling to find a link to get an online quote for the AA cover - have you got one?

I had the 5 star AA warranty but just upgraded to Gold due to the main dealer option.

No online quote - just had to phone them. They were quite helpful. One thing to be wary of. On the phone, I was quoted as the maximum repair cost being equal to the market value of the car. The policy documentatin states a maximum of £3000 per claim. I have queried this and have been told they made a mistake on the phone. £3000 is still ok (not 100% happy about this), and U think on paper the policy still represents the best value that I know of.
