Hello all
Need to change oil in my gearbox so have been looking into cost of shell m13754 auto gearbox fluid and my supplier can get it in a big barrel only.
If i got it i could sell it at £10 + vat per litre but it is a big outlay. I know local lr dealer wants nearly £18 + vat trade for this stuff. I have a workshop so could do the drain and refill for £20 plus oil.
If this is of help to anyone please let me know cause i dont want to buy it and let it go to waste.

take from me, we have all discussed the same in the past, personal view, just buy from the stealer what you need, would'nt worry about the big barrel, you only need around 7.5 litres per flush and then another 7.5 for a refill leaving you with alot of flamable material in your garage!!!

Spoke to lube man today who confirmed that carlube atf-u is right speck. Rang my gearbox specialist who says he has checked spec sheet from them and it is good. thay have used it for 6 months and all is fine.
Shall see what happens.

I have recently had a double flush on my transmission to cure the juddering etc which it has. I did a lot of research and followed advice from other forum members and opted for the miller oils millermatic dm atf. Millers oils (who I spoke to) said that it is the same spec as the shell oil used by landrover. Im happy anyway and it has cured the problem that I had. I purchsed mine online and will happily send you the link to the website i bought it from if you email me. I paid about £19-00 for 5litres and needed 2 of these to do the double flush. I alos had the filter in the sump changed too at a cost of about £60-00. I hope this help?

I double flushed mine and changed the bottom pan and filter.
I just begged for a discount from the dealer on oe spec oil.
If they changed your bottom tray for £60 then it was different to mine.....
One of those jobs that should be simple but ended up being a pain in the Ar$£

Have recieved the carlube atf-u and can confirm it is right spec. includes gm dextron 6 on spec list which is good for all modern gm boxes.
Paid under £3 + vat per litre so just need to persuade dealer to do me a good deal on the filter. I spend enough with them so should do.
Hopefully this will cure my problem. Anybody local i will keep this oil in stock so pm if you would like some.

I got my oil from Millers Oils. I got all the bits for doing the job from Nick (TLO) although I haven't changed the pan yet. When we did the job, the bolts holding the pan on where going to be US afterwards so I had to order some bolts and not got round to swapping the pan and doing a final oil change. D3 HSE MY05 Auto

Removing the filter posed a real problem to my mechanic. There is a 8cm long tube coming out of the top of it that requires the same clearance to remove the filter. When the pan is lowered it is stopped by a cross member and it requires the gearbox mounts releasing and also the right hand engine mount. It all then needs jacking up to get enough clearance. It was a real pain for my mechanic but it has worked a treat and the car now runs as sweet as a nut. I have found that the Millers oils worked really well and are a fraction of the price of others that I have looked at.

Did first drain and refill today. Oil that came out was burnt and stank. Problems have already gone away.
Will do another next week then a third with new filter. May sound ott but i own my own garage so we do this stuff all the time.

With due respect to all on this post.
No matter how many times you `double flush` by simply draining and refilling you are always diluting the new fluid with old and,consequently, you will never get clean fluid. Not wishing to blow our trumpet too hard but the Megaflush system we use to change the fluid means you get at least 97% of the fluid changed. The service is quick, easy and (relatively) painless! Experience over the years has shown us that this method helps extend the transmission life as well as making the shifts smoother.
We can, of course, supply the correct fluid if you still want to DIY!

Can you replace the filter at the same time? If so I would be interested as mine is getting snatchy and sometimes reluctant to shift up.
But I don't see the point of changing the fluid if the old filter is not done at the same time. A bit like changing engine oil but leaving the old filter in place.

We can, of course, change the filter if you want. This will incur some extra expense as once the filter is changed we have to refill the box BEFORE we can carry out our flush.
I understand what you say about not changing engine oil without a new filter, however the filter in an auto box is somewhat different. It is a screen filter which is designed to catch articles above a specified size circulating in the 'box. Providing the 'box is maintaned properly this filter should not get clogged up, this is why we would not normally change the filter. In the past we have only needed to change the filter on badly neglected 'boxes in such as P38`s, the symtoms in these cases have been very severe ie: the car will barely drive, very often for no more than 100 metes before stopping! A filter change and refill followed by the flush has rescued several of the 'boxes!

Pretty much what an engine oil filter does then! Granted, transmission oil doesn't generate soot like a diesel engine does but without a backflush & drain, the filter will still be 'contaminated' and therefore reduce maximum flow... generally not a problem unless the vehicle is operated at high torque and / or high temperatures for prolonged periods
