Protective plate underneath?

Have recently bought my first D3 and been underneath looking at it with view to Waxoyling it. Between the front and rear wheels on the drivers side there appears to be a large metal plate or guard, which is starting to rust. Tried to remove it with 13mm socket but some of the bolts are seized, so it they are currently soaking in WD40. What is behind (ie above) this guard ?? Also just forward of passenger side rear wheel there is a plastic box protecting something, does anyone know what?? Thanks for any help or advice!

The compressor is hidden behind a protective cover on the passenger side just forward of the rear wheels.

That large metal plate on the drivers side is the fuel tank guard, it also supports the fuel tank so don't go removing it unless your ready to support the fuel tank

Thanks both, I think they can stay where they are then, I will just spray the whole area in WD40 to try and prevent the rusting getting worse!

It can be worth taking the cover to the compressor off and cleaning out the mud from it. Disco Dunc has written some great instructions for it, basically 3 bolts and some clips. Mine was full of Sand and making a noise until I removed it, much better now. Nothing bolted onto the cover, it's just a cover so no fuel tank to drop onto your head!
