I've heard almost nothing but bad stuff on this forum about Pendragon/Reg Vardy, who own the Newcastle dealership and pretty much everything else up and down the east coast as far as I can see.
The sentiment appears to be 'great in pre-sales, poor in support'.
None of the feedback relates specifically to Newcastle though. Anyone got any opinions of the folks there?
The advice on the board seems to be to find a privately owned dealership, and there seem to be a lot of buyers on this forum going over to Lakeland and others in the North West. Which are the good non-chain dealerships from, say, York up to Edinburgh (Or Lancaster to Glasgow... I can head west too)?
Another question - does it really matter where I buy my new D3 from - I should presumably go for the best deal and then worry about this when it comes to servicing? Do I have to take the vehicle back to the place I bought it for warranty stuff?

We bought ours from Rossleigh in Stockton on Tees, they gave the best deal including the internet at the time. We then had a little problem with the rear PDC which we took to our local dealer in York, there wasn't a problem at all and they looked after us whilst dealing with it, they loaned us a Range Rover for the day while they had our car, so I don't see there being a problem on the warranty side, so shop around for the best deal.

I bought my previous car, a Freelander, from Rossleigh in Durham, but never had any occasion to test their after sales, except for routine servicing. I bought my Disco 3 from Ripon Landrover as they gave me by far the best trade-in deal, over £1500 better then Rossleigh:shock: and considerably better than Guy Salmon in York or Farnells in Bradford.

Rossleigh, Newcastle
I bought my TDV6 SE from Rossleigh Newcastle in Dec 2005, I got £2000 discount which paid for the extras I wanted. Found the dealer very friendly and helpfull.Arctic Frost Discovery 3 TDV6 SE, Active Rear Diff, Adaptive Head Lights, Tow Pack, Ebony Leather, Roof Rails, Mantec Guard. Tasmod Stainless Sill plates. Grabber AT's. Home made mud flaps. Side Steps back on until the next time.
Is that 'chesters' as in the Roman fort? One of my favourite parts of the world. Can't wait to get back.
I've been exchanging a few emails with the folks at Rossleigh, and they are indeed helpful and friendly. The one thing they haven't been able to do is commit to giving me a long test drive in a car - accompanied test drives only (due to insurance constraints). Is this typical of all LR dealers?

Chesters
Yes the street I live in is The Chesters, all the street names are to do with the Roman Wall, as I live on the direct line of it. We used to live in Legion Road and at the top of the road are some remains of the Wall.Arctic Frost Discovery 3 TDV6 SE, Active Rear Diff, Adaptive Head Lights, Tow Pack, Ebony Leather, Roof Rails, Mantec Guard. No its not. Slimer and I went to collect my 110 on Friday last week from J V Like, Hay On Wye. The 110 having just had a new clutch. We spotted a RRS V8 in the staff car park I asked for the keys and was duly handed them. The only comment my dealer made was 'Don’t take it up the 4x4 course' . Don’t want one far to small.
Anyway Insurance has never been an issue with my dealer. In fact I have just called them to ask the question. I will pm you the salesman’s name and number, they will get you in a car for at least a day. As long as they feel that you are a genuine potential customer and not just along for a free ride you should have no problems. The only thing is the distance you will have to travel to get the car. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Damn! No more RRS ragging then
Shhhhh. We had to take it out to err err err that it yes I remember now. It was to see what would happen at 104mph taking a slight right hander whilst hitting a load of mud that a local farmer had left on the road.
Only joking we actually took it to the cake shop to pick up Welsh cakes and then delivered the cakes to the local Tea Rooms. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
No its not.

OK, now that I know that there's a possibility, I'll make a few calls in the local area (that will be North England, not Wellington) and see if there's a dealer who can give me a good test. I'll probably start at Ripon. I haven't been there for a while and it's quite close to the ancestors' place.
Thanks everyone.

dealership feedback
I purchased my new Disco from Newcastle. It was my third landrover from them. I had 2 freelanders before. I had great service for 6 years. I made the mistake of having my last freelander serviced in teesside and it was terrible (wont bore people with details).
That put me off and I went and bought a mitsubishi shogun sport. The worst car I have ever had. Couldn't change it quick enough. Rossliegh at newcastle were the only local dealer who offered a deal which was practicable and allowed me to buy my disco 3. Others wanted silly monthly payments or didn't want the trade in. I intend to have all my servicing done at newcastle and I so far have purchased all my acessories there as well.
I am more than happy with my treatment and service to date.
My suggestion is to go south to Huddersfield
ROCAR MOORES at junction 25 on the M62
I have dealt with them for some years
- both sales & especially service
I can only praise their competance.
The journey is approx 1 hour 45 minsBREXIT - done properly.
