Shocked by 30k service cost
I own a Jan'08 Disco3 HSE with 18500 miles on her. She has just returned from my local dealer where I bought it, my second LR from them, and I am shocked by the cost of the 30k service. I had also complained about the parking brake sticking which they described as wear and tear and therefore outside the warranty.
The bill for the service was £490 and the rear brakes(cleaning and de-glazing) £159 (both including VAT). Now that is after I expressed amazement, mentioned that this sounded excessive and that I would be posting a note on this LR forum. This price represents a 10% discount and a £90 p/h labour rate vs their standard £115. When I challenged to understand his sudden folding on price I was told this was normally reserved for cars over 3yrs old.
Am I right to be shocked?

Always, always, always shop around!!! Many dealers will price match but you have to do some legwork and say I can get it for £xxx. Otherwise it's bend over time! ISTR paid £350 for mine but that was 18 months ago and memory vague.

Hi Jeremy, you'll need to shop around and be prepared to travel for the best price. I was quoted £550 by my local dealer for my 3rd service. Got a better deal (£330) else where but had to travel a fair way and endure the red lion for an evening The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us yet.

Just today I was quoted £470 incl vat and parts for 30k by Williams Manchester. Quite impressed by their willingness to do it while I waited tomorrow or provide me with a F2 as a courtesy car next week. Still it seems a lot. Might try Landranger of Atherton. Anyone recommend another in Gtr manchester ?

Hi Jeremy. I nearly had the same experience, but rejected their quote and went to Guava in Guildford instead. It's a bit of a PITA to get to, but they do have (crappy little) loan cars, a good attitude and are much cheaper.
I've heard that Guy Salmon at Thames Ditton will haggle, but easiest beforehand than after! I'll try that for the next service.Andrew

I use Guy Salmon Thames Ditton all the time and have a great relationship with them. GSTD like most dealers in the Greater London area will naturally be more expensive than elsewhere.....they will price match other dealers outside of the M25 but you have to do the homework and be confident in your approach.
I haven't had a EPB issue on my current vehicle but the previous one was adjusted and cleaned under warranty or goodwill on several occasions. LR's position on the EPB has changed since then and many dealers either have to or absorb the cost or charge.....sadly it seems you either have to be on exceptional terms or throw your dummy right out in order onto get them to absorb.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
