Overlander 4WD Of the Year

Quite a good article in this months Overlander. D4 didn't win, it didn't even come 2nd, it got a third, but the editorial comments throughout help paint a picture of why the Triton won.

It might be very old tech (still has rear drums for gods sake!), but it allows the driver to drive without telling the driver what to do.

Adds to my previous rant about falling out of love with my Disco 3.http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic41025.html All of the electrics are undoubtedly clever, but even a jet liner lets the pilot take full control when he wants so why can't a D3/D4?

Overlander are obviously very unhappy with the 19's on the D4 too. I was a little sad to see the D4 not take the prize but actually have gained some respect for the mag formerly known as "Roverlander"

I don't think much of their winner but I'm in total agreement with the unsuitabilitiy of the 19" minimum rim size. But that's just one of my gripes, with the stiff sway bar restricting individual wheel movement making for a rough ride over uneven surfaces and suspension that lacks travel that causes the front bump-stops to take a pounding at 100 kph on sealed country roads, along with the occupants and the rest of the vehicle. It may have a premium interior appearance but there's nothing premium about the ride.

Funny how different experience can lead to different opinions.

I came from a Ford Territory Ghia AWD and I think the D4 ride is pretty good if not a little soft at times. In fact I would love to see a firmer "Road" setting included as the standard feels just a little soft to me.

Funny I just got my copy of nrma's mag and it says the d4 is 4wd of the year for the 5th year running and it was good to see LR is keeping the d3 standard up in the d4.

I have recently seen bitsamissing ads stating their 4wd is car of the year - according to who?
