I think its documented in the Off Road Driving section in the manual... wait a sec (well you don't really have to of course as I will post it here just below - just a figure of speech of course)...
"If the vehicle is unable to complete the climb, do not attempt to turn it around while on the slope. Instead, adopt the following procedure to reverse downhill to the foot of the slope.
If the engine has stalled:
1. Hold the vehicle stationary using the foot brake.
2. Depress the clutch pedal, select neutral and then LOW range, if not already selected, then select reverse gear.
3. Release the clutch pedal and THEN gently release the foot brake. The stalled engine will prevent vehicle movement.
4. Without touching either of the clutch or brake pedals, start the engine and reverse the vehicle down the slope using the engine braking and HDC to control the rate of descent.
5. Unless it is necessary to stop the vehicle in order to negotiate obstructions, DO NOT touch the clutch or brake pedals during the descent.
6. If the vehicle begins to slide, the limits of adhesion have been reached, and it may be impossible to maintain the minimum speed. Gently press the accelerator pedal to allow the tyres to regain grip, then gently release the accelerator pedal."
Procedures also in there for Auto and manual where the engine is still running.
