D3 HSE vs D4 XS

Going boss-eyed comparing the specs, just wondered if any of you went from a D3 HSE to a D4 XS and are you missing anything that you previously had ?. I am just struggling with the cost of a HSE against the XS and looking through the differences between them, I am doing a good job of convincing myself I can live without them !.

Are there any not so obvious differences, e.g. do you only get arm rests with the Premium Leather ?

Any thoughts ?

thanks,

Dave

Just ordered an XS couldn't justify the 7k extra for an HSE (even though I have an HSE now)

Significant diffrences are :-

no alpine roof
no zenons
'ordinary leather'
manual seats
no reversing camera
no armrests
No offroad satnav
heated seats - front only
ICE one notch below
different 19" wheels

but adaptive headlights and fridge are extra on D4 HSE

I also got an XS because couldn't justify the 7k extra for an HSE.

I orderd with the reverse camera for a small add-on fee and i have turned on after the 4x4 info offroad satnav and voice avtivation.

I went the opposite way, from a D3 XS to a D4 HSE.

Although I love it and it is very much a step up in spec from the D3, some of the extras are more important than others.

Electric Memory Seats - Brilliant. Much more comfortable & convenient.
Premium Audio - Sounds fantastic. Especially in Logic 7 mode.
Keyless Entry - Takes a bit of getting used to, but very handy.
Rear View Camera - I use it more than I thought I would. Wish you could use it as a rear view mirror though!

However...
Glass roof - Personally I would rather not have it.
Sat-Nav - Very dissapointed with this. Overly complicated and not as good as my Tom Tom! (Not used the off-road bit - yet).
4x4 screen - I know some people make use of this feature but I see it as a bit of a gimmick TBH.
High-Beam Assist - F Censored ing useless! Reacts too late resulting in you getting flashed at by oncoming drivers.
Hybrid TV - My car came with this already fitted. Used it once so far whilst picking SWMBO up from the railway station. It works fine but wouldn't have chosen it otherwise.
Auto-Folding Mirrors - Good idea, until they are covered in 6" of frozen snow & ice!
Front Parking Sensors - What is the point of these? They only come on if you have selected reverse! WTF?

D4 XS Armrests

Question Question I thought the D4 XS did have armrests, but only on the centre consol side (ie not on door side)....

Can someone confirm please as mine gets made in a couple of weeks and will have a tantrum if I don't get seat armrest on the centre consol side of the front seats..... Big Cry

I know one thing, everytime I clean my D3 and leave the armrest up , I jump in and go to rest my arm on it and then flinch as it is not there !!!, It could be the one thing I would miss in an XS over an HSE !!!

Sandy - Arm rest are not standard on the XS. You might have to be disappointed.

Disco Dad - My front sensors only come in when I push the button to activate them. Perhaps the XS is wired differently or maybe you have a wiring fault?

The front sensors on my car come on under two conditions. Either reverse is selected or the button is pressed. Personally I prefer the way they work on the Merc (& prob several others too) where they come on once your speed drops below approx 10 MPH. You can switch them off but it does mean they are always looking out for you Wink

The front parking aid should come on when reverse is selected. It can also be activated manually by pressing the centre console button....and both can be turned off using the same.

I am not so negative on the high-beam assist. I find it works very well, though there are certain situations when you can predict it won't recognise an oncoming vehicle. Invariably I find that if I decide that it isn't going to work and go to switch the dipped beam manually, the automatic system gets there just before me!

I couldn't have justified the extra for HSE. I had an HSE Freelander 2 recently and it had the armrests. The XS has no arm rests but a big centre cubby box which I rest my arm on with no discomfort. The Freelander with no armrest would have been unthinkable as there was nothing in the centre, just a a handbrake!

XS is brilliant but i still get false warnings on the computer this weekend it was a red triangle with 'restricted prerformance' switch the car on an off cleared it, but they happen frequently.
