How to enable TOW ASSIST feature? |
|
Hello. New here. What a great forum...
I am a new owner of LR4 in US. Mine came with the surround camera system and tow assist feature. However, selection button for the tow assist is not shown on the main selection menu. Tow wiring is not installed yet.
Is this just matter of buying the wiring kit and wire it and the system will detect it automatically or does the dealer has get involved and enable this in the system? TJ

Two different systems to consider: Tow stability which will try and rectify trailer snaking by sequential braking is always active.
The camera based Tow Assist is accessed through "special views" in the surround camera screen. Hitting this button opens a menu to input your trailer parameters. For the system to work properly you need to fix a camera target to the front of the trailer. How you might get one nobody knows as my dealer has been working on it for 3 days without success!! 2011 D4 Landmark, Mini Cooper SD Clubman, Range Rover Vogue SE

So sounds like your HSE has Tow Assist feature. Was the trailer hitch wired by dealer when you bought it or did you do it your self? This is what I am trying to figure out. If I can just wire it and the button will showup on the menu automatically or a technition has to hook up a computer to activate the feature once everything is wired up. TJ

I beleive it has to be enabled when the tow electrics are fitted. Duncan

Hi
Good luck with getting a target through the dealers - best they could manage for me was a PDF file and some instruction in MS Word (at least they tried ) - You'll need to read the word file for setup etc and print the PDF target to attach to the trailer probably needs to be laminated to prevent it getting all soggy in the rain
Both files are in my gallery if you want to play

Thanks again Thriftwood. It never ceases to amaze that this forum comes up with the answers when LR just throws up it's hands. 4 days the dealer has been trying to come up with this info.
Wouln't it be fun to get some senior LR management in a room with a few of us and ask them why stuff like this goes on!!!!

The dealer. It is just a paper A4 sheet with the picture of the target on it. When I get back to normal shift hours next week I shall photo copy a couple and get the kids to colour them and then plastisies them MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

I've printed off a copy of the target which I'll plasticize. But which orientation does the target take? Is it the 'obvious' way with the single disc above the two?
Confused, from Holland. Peter

I would go with two at the bottom and one at the top
The instructions say that the target area on the screen turns green when the the target is correctly placed.
Please let us know which way round it works for you Oh! and if it is worth all the trouble.
Richard
Ps the camera views that are shown on the instructions are interesting as I don't understand how they can be generated from where my cameras are placed - unless..... the cameras in the wing mirrors swivel?
