| D 4 reliability / Should I Purchase. |

Hello Forum,
I like the D 4 very much, but very concerned about reliability.At the moment I have a 2year old Subaru Forester from new and 95,000 miles on the clock, never missed a beat. But the cabin is a let down.I live in Holland but work in Germany and Switzerland that's why the mileage is high.Can the new D 4 give me the reliability of the Subaru. Your views would be appreicated.

Hi we own a subarua imprezza and a disco 3 ....the reliability of the subaru is far better than that of the disco; having said that the refinement in the Disco is a lot better than the subaru. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Discos are not the most reliable cars on the plant, but it depends what you want it for! Off road, comfort and cult following then disco is the way ahead. If you are doing high milage and your time is very precious then the Diso may not be the best idea. But if you do get one you will understand why people get them, and you will not look back.

I had doubts when I brought my D4. But any car can have problems. I know of people who have had terrible Subies. Sometimes its the luck of the draw.
1 month in and I am impressed with my D4. I am far less impressed with the dealer. Discovery 4 SE Long range fuel tank Kaymar Rear Bar.

On the positive side many typical D3 problems have been addressed (i didnt say fixed) in the D4. For example the EGR valve mechanism is now on the cold side rather than the hot side so shouldnt stick (as much). The EPB has been redimensioned and hopefully cured of it propensity to store mud. Many bolt on bits have been made waterproof.
On the negative side there are now 2 turbos to go wrong instead of 1. New electrical bits have been added needing new software which may have gremlins (cured by updates over time)
Generally, problems on these cars resolve to flashing lights at you and some loss of power. You nearly always get where you need to go and problems are fixed under warranty. Just the inconvenience really. Brilliant car though. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song
