Right I've just been having another good read of the BAS blanking guide.
The difficult part of the work seems to be the access down to where the EGR pipe flanges join the EGR openings. The blanking process on the air intake box is very straight-forward. Now what i was thinking is why go to all the effort to remove the pipes? Why not blank off the pipes where the stub valve are and keep the pipes in-situ and capped off (how that is done is another matter, i guess one way would be to block the stub pipe opening and refit to the EGR pipe)? That would make the whole process ten-fold easier.
Any comments would be appreciated.

HI mate,
Sorry I haven't got back to you earlier.
I'm no expert at this but I managed to do this with little problems, Pete @ Bellautos seems to be the man and he advises stripping the lot out rather than blanking leaving the pipes in place. When you get into it you'll see that there is a lot of in there around the stub pipes so better to remove altogether I think.
Pete will also give you some info on your Remap.
My car goes through its first MOT next month since I blanked them but I'm not anticipating any issues.
Cheers

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for the reply. Well I've ordered my kit and spoken to Pete. Just waiting to get the D3 back from the garage, the kit to arrive and to fit it. Hopefully no more power loss thereafter. I've read so much recently about EGRs it's hilarious but again not exactly reasonable that this is such a common issue that stills prevails!! Unacceptable in my mind, especially if I was buying a D4 and it happened!!
Cheers Adam.

BAS blanked-each-end is certainly the neatest solution.
I got a basic set of one-end blanks via a forum group buy. Planning to fit these and address the stub pipe concerns by grinding / cutting them off. Biting with teeth if necessary.

I've just fitted a BAS blanking kit, and by far the trickiest part was getting to the lower rear screw on the o/s stub pipe - I've not got the smallest of hands, but I still managed to get the bottom end of the pipes (on the actual EGR valve) off with no dramas............my biggest worry was having done one side - and finding the two securing bolts badly corroded - I was worrying that the bolts on the other side were gonna shear off.....and drilling them out would be a right pig ! (Pete does suggest giving them a dose of WD40 before starting !). I've replaced these original bolts with some stainless ones I had knocking about.
And as for the BAS remap...............

Good Job,
I bet the car is feeling a lot better to drive. It does get a bit tricky at times I found prizing the spindle out the toughest part but its a good feeling once its done.
I must admit, me not having done a lot to cars etc - I was pretty proud of myself once I had completed mine.
Hope the screws you put in are ok??
Cheers

I used bolts that were the same size - just stainless rather than rusty old steel..........didn't have any locking washers to hand, so got to 'find' some at work today ! Jim

Just one bit of advice to anyone going to do this.
Whe removing the butterfly valve spindle, don't try and prise it out the housing, it's pretty fragile plastic, pull it out. I used a pair of adjustable pipe pliers (plumbing ones) and gripped the spindle head and eased it out.
No danger of snapping any of the housing that way.

My spindle came out easily. I'm now getting an extra 3mpg now valves are blanked 8)
Wasn't to much of an issue with one sticking valve, but when the other side went it was a pain to get the motor moving and dangerous pulling away from junctions And unlike Adzbaby's Queen, mine don't smoke any longer Faultmate MSV2 EXTREME

Hi all, i had this problem while away for the weekend. Totally lost all power, called out Land Rover Assistance who said this happens all the time, its something to with recirculating exhaust gasses. Anyway he fixed it with a 2p piece, and he said it worked as good as any blanking kit!
Although I did get it changed under warranty later.

Hi guys.
What are EGR valves?
What do they do?
Why would Land Rover spend thousands of £’s (presumably) developing them if it’s better to blank them off?
Then finally: would EGR valves have any effect on severe and immediate loss of power at normal running temperature - and would blanking them off solve this problem? (Read; trying to avoid suggested expensive turbo replacement )
Cheers

Just got mine back from the stealers today after a warranty EGR Valve replacement. Now that they've done it though I'll be fitting the blanking kit I've had knocking about for a couple of months - didn't want to let them get away with it, and just in case I ever need to remove the blanks, at least the valves will be new!
