Newbie - advice needed

Hi completely new to the site but looks really good. I wonder if some of you experienced D3 owners can help?
I'm currently test driving some D3s mostly 4-5 year old 50-60k miles, TDV6s, looking for a prospective purchase.
Having never owned a LR before what would you say are the most important items to check before purchase?
Are there any well known commonly reocurring faults that I should look out for?
Thank you all in advance for your help - hopefully within a couple of weeks I will be an owner and can consider myself a part of the site 'proper'!

Unfortunately this is why this forum is so popular Wink

Good service history essential. Plenty of bits and pieces have had 'fixes' issued by LR so if buying from an LR garage they should be able to list whats been done and what needs to be done if any. Ideally you should be trying to buy something with some warranty time left just in case.

Otherwise, its a wise choice you are making Thumbs Up

My advice would be don't get put off by what you read on here - nobody posts "just owned my D3 for a year, drove 20,000 miles and nothing broke..."

Either buy from a main dealer or a garage with a good reputation for sorting out problems (there's plenty of feedback on here) or I'd contact forum member 10forcash who is an independent and very expert D3 mechanic based at Derby. I'm not sure what he would charge to do an inspection but it could end up saving you a lot.

Good luck, and welcome!

Hi discoteca,
welcome to the best place for LR info, get one with a good service history and check with the garage that did the work (if possible) - you WILL love driving a D3 - they are a VERY capable on & off road vehicle, I bought mine with 97K on the clock and a great service history - and so far it's been brilliant - change oil regularly - don't drive it like it's a Ferrari and you'll have no troubles.....go for it !!!!! - and don't forget to post some pictures. Thumbs Up

Welcome discoteca!

Here in Oz we use kilometres, so I suspect that oldsalt meant 97k km (60k miles). Nevertheless, some D3s on here have done 4x that distance (and more) and are still going strong.

Best Wishes,
Peter
