Whilst doing my 75K service, he noticed that my alternator was very hot so checked its output to find it at 11 V with the (brand new!!) battery at 10.6 V and falling Of course, no indication at all from the Alternator warning light
Rang local dealer (Stratstones in Stockton-on-Tees) and to my amazement, they had one in stock. Following a call to Warranty Direct for authorisation, Iain and I were off the Stratstones to collect the alternator. Iain has also added a new belt tensioner to the claim - the bearing was failing (and probably not far off seizing up completely), causing the tensioner to whine.
Iain is back out there again now, in the rain, fitting my new alternator

There's not a lot gets past TFC! Some say.....
How have you got on with Warranty Direct?? Changing to them next month.
Well, they've given TFC a claim number (he had to ring them for the authorization, not me) and he bought and paid for the alternator so it all seems to have gone OK. I'm sure TFC will be in touch if there's a problem down the line.
Oh yes, he also says I've got a rattle from the torque converter (must have better ears than me cos I couldn't hear anything) and my Injectors want cleaning! Best get some Millers on the way home..

That worked out well then
With Warranty Direct do you have to pay out for all repairs first and claim the money back? Or is there a bar over which they will settle with the dealer?Badda bing.......How you doin'?

Seems they have a 'new' system whereby they deal directly with the dealer/repairer so I'm assuming I will eventually get a bill from them for the £50 excess on the claim. Iain paid for the alternator (£222 ish +VAT ouch!!) and expects to be reimbursed directly by Warranty Direct so me (and my credit card ) didn't get involved with them at all.Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. That's reassuring to know after purchasing my WD cover before the LR extended ran out.
Still waiting for TVLR to send out the paperwork (only for my records so nowt important) following my service in February despite ringing and asking for it and calling in for a new door mirror glass. It's the little things after all!
Hope the WD cover passes the Ronseal Test!
