Caffyn's Lewes, LRA, & Tesco Warranty
On our way to Ashford International this morning, for a long weekend in Paris with the family, the red battery light came on. Thought I'd ignore it, but got as far as the tunnel on the Lewes by-pass, and the car completely shut off...Thankfully, I had enough momentum to make it to the roundabout and pull up onto the curb, right across the street from Caffyn's!
As it was 0730, I rang Land Rover Assistance, and the LRA engineer came out within 20 minutes to Ian, the engineer.
Having diagnosed it as an alternator, he towed me over to Caffyn's, checked me in with Caffyn's and arranged a call to Enterprise. Enterprise got back to me within 15 minutes to say that they could get me an appropriate car by 11 am. As we looked to be missing our 10:55 train anyway, at the rate things were going, I agreed to that.
In the mean time, Caffyn's,who were packed with other people's cars to work with, and literally no loaner cars available for a couple of weeks, realised our predicament and made a real push to get our alternator seen to in between other jobs. They figured we could be out of there by 13:00. They also called Tesco Warranty to take care of the claim, with nothing falling back on me to do.
As there are worse fates than being stuck in Lewes for a few hours, we called to cancel the rental car to avoid logistical nightmares next week and headed out to the town. We did a bit of browsing in the shops, and had an excellent calzone in a place called Famiglia something-or-other. Then got a call at 12:45 saying the Disco was ready.
Feeling awfully lucky because:
1. I took the route I did (it could have been the A23!)
2. The Disco gave up right at the right spot
3. LRA did exactly what it says on the tin
4. Caffyn's got us sorted out quicker than would normally be expected. With friendly and agreeable service with a smile; very helpful throughout.
5. Tesco Warranty came through (too bad I can't renew with them)
So now, we're sitting at Ashford international waiting for a 17:27 train. And thinking to myself how sad that I decided to post about my experience. 55-Reg Java Black SE, Unlocked SatNav (via Wiggs and Bodsy), Nudge Bar/Driving Lamps/RAI, Front & Rear Lamp Guards, RLD Sump Plate, RLD spare wheel protector

I have also had dealings with Ian from LRA, yes most helpful and I have used Caffyns for a number of years without complaint. They have always tried their best to sort me out asap. I have my car collected and delivered every time, no charge. Thoroughly recommended.Stvmor
That's a thought...Tesco's is opposite Caffyns, perhaps I'll take my D3 there I might get better job done.
Spent 2 1/2 hours in Caffyns yesterday to have the replacement header tank they fitted about 3 weeks ago fitted properly.
It was not fitted into locating lug and was rubbing on the ac pipe and the hose that runs across rad was twisted. After about an hour I was told all done and sorted only to find when I opened bonnet to check was only the hose was fixed header tank had not been touched. Defender 300Tdi 110 HCP - Keswick Green
