I wouldn't and the only reason being you won't have the log book and outside of the EU that means all sorts of trouble if your asked for your documents.

The temp one the dealer gives you as a print out doesn't count as an official document.

You have to have a sense of humour with a Disco, my plastic sump guard was taken on and off so many times and had the plastic clips broken, which you have to do to get access to the towing eye for Land Rover recovery, that I fitted a Mantec sump guard that has a hole in it already, easy for them to just hook it up , drag it on the lorry and off, you may want to get one of those Wink

I am sure you will be fine having assessed everything, but my last year has been spoiled after the horror of day 4 from new by waiting for the 'special functions disabled' message and then the car immediately going down to 30mph in the fast lane with lorries hurtling past on the inside lane Shocked , when it goes into limp mode Rolling Eyes . That only lasted a year, it seems fine now but it is still in my mind and I think I have been affected forever.

When I headed off in the D2 got a temp reg doc from Cardiff VRO, official pucka doc with an ink stamp so can be waved at any foreign official with gusto! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I think I am too thick to be a LR owner. What is a log book? Is it the V5 bit of paper? Is anybody outside UK going to know what a V5 is? I have never taken it abroad before. I take the insurance docs, and c'est tout!

yes. Definitely. Because officials will ask for the vehicle registration document.

But I have never had to show mine in many different countries in Europe.
 The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

At risk of almost agreeing with DT, it's not unknown for new cars to have faults that need fixing and I'd make sure you have the numbers for LR Assist, something to keep the kids warm and occupied if you do have a problem, and a sense of humour! It's not an LR thing - I've had a "premium German brand" that needed a new gearbox on the second day and in comparison the D3 has been a paragon of reliability.

Good luck, although you won't need it!

Yes Dunc, I am sure you can't. But...I have never owned a LR, I have heard bad stories and i have read some on here. I have currently got two bomb-proof M-B and an indestructible Saab (175k and still waiting to have to do something, anyhting - a new clutch maybe? whatever). You are all informing me that I should be fine, but there has been the odd bad experience. The consensus is that I should take the car, but make sure I have all the numbers, comms, in-car stuff that is appropriate. I consider this is good advice. thank you one and all.

Stick, I understand your reluctance but seriously, you'll kick yourself if you don't. These cars EAT the miles. Recently drove through the night (in heavy snow for the first couple of hours) from a small village 50km from Geneva back to Dorset. In total, 12 very relaxing hours door to door. 3 hours kip, then got on with my weekend as if nothing unusual had happened.
 I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
