High Pressure fuel pump - Recall |
|
Nice surprise yesterday. Started my SE V6 diesel and it made a ticking noise. Took it to LR and they said it needed 14k worth of replacement parts! Basically a new fuel system. It has only done 30k, about 13 months old.
Car cannot be driven and the parts aren't in. I had to get the Missus to come and get me
Apparently the HP fuel pump is subject to a recall, which I had not been advised of.
Anyone had any similar experience?
Now I just have to work out how to transport 4 kids and a Mrs in a Nissan Xtrail 08' TDV 6 SE

Hi MJPeters - welcome!
Yes - had this failure on three occasions. The first one had diesel pouring over the red hot turbo.
The last one was completed as you say - replacing everything that diesel is stored in or flows through. Luckily for me - it has never happened out in the bush, caught fire and the last repair used the updated parts which were used in the recall notice. So, even though my car was in scope of the recall - I never received a notice. Well, I hope that was the reason - and they just forgot about some people
Hopefully they have some parts in Australia to repair it - and not have to wait 2+ weeks for them to be shipped here. I think my D3 has the record for most $ spent on warranty work and probably time off the road - and in LR dealerships getting mended.
Cheers
Rob

It's very interesting that the recall is not proactive. Seems like almost a secret.
They are figuring that the'll wait for it to break for most people it i guess. I would certainly be checking with LR (in writing) for any car still under warranty. Certainly not the sort of repair you want to pay for. 08' TDV 6 SE

Thanks for the info MJPeters...I am heading off around Australia with my wife, 3 kids, D3 TDV6 and bulloak camper at the end of this year and plan to be away for 12-18 months...getting more and more concerned with that half my time may be spent at a LR dealer especially when i hear that we are not even being notified of recalls!
I will see that I spend some time with the Alto mechanics to see if there are other recalls that i need to be aware of...alternatively i can trade in for a defender

Hi MJPeters,
I think that your view that LR is not proactive regarding a recall is somewhat misplaced.
I believe that the normal procedure is that LR works through the dealers regarding recalls. This allows staging of the recall work in order to allow the dealer to have the parts in stock when you are notified and to stop everyone showing up at the dealers on day 1 of the recall.
As you have found out, the dealer obviously didn't have the parts in stock and to notify you of the recall would have been irresponsible.
Now that you have a mechanical problem, the dealer will accelerate things.
Hope that I have made sense,

Or the stealers are totally unorganised and useless! For example - they even tried to sell me extended warranty - that they had already sold me when I bought the D3! Or two installations of new HPFP parts before installing it correctly!
I would recommend anyone with a D3 in scope of the recall to check with their stealer. Good luck with that!

I can only go by my experience here and the fact that I only discovered that this bit was recalled after it failed tells me that there is not much proactive going on at my end. The dealer has been good about it and I believe they are fixing it as fast as they can but I am still annoyed that i have lost my car to a fault that was well known to them. The car has been service with them twice in the past year, you would have thought that was long enough to fix it.
It's not steering or brakes involved so I guess they are within their rights to do whatever although i am not sure what happens to warranty when something known to be faulty is left in a car just because it has not failed yet. 08' TDV 6 SE

I had my recall work done in August last year. I was only told by the dealer when i took the car in for it's regular service. Most recalls on vehicles are done this way unless they are considered dangerous, which if there is a chance of fire you would think was dangerous??

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story
Aparently my model wasn't supposed to have the faulty part in it, which is why mine wasn't replaced under the recall programme.
Well all back from the dealer, whole fuel system replaced and a carwash to boot. Pretty happy with my dealer I must say, they always deliver decent service. I just hope the good old LR engineering department doesn't have any more surprises for me. 08' TDV 6 SE

the dealer picked up the high pressure fuel pump and servo recalls when i went in for a service. But just to prove that the system is grinding along, a letter advising of the recalls arrived about 2 months after. like someone said...random.
