Hi all
Has anyone went from a Freelander 2 to a D4. I have had my Freelander 2 now for two years and have been delighted with the car since the day i picked it up. When i bought the freelander i had a good test drive of the car and knew i wanted it there and then. The D4 is a different story. I have bought one but have never driven one as yet. Bit late now but my reason for this is there was not one available to test in the time frame i had. If i were more patient i could have but there seemed to be a real shortage of these cars so i just went for it. (I also don't do patients very well) I work overseas and and put the deposit down before leaving UK.
The car is at the dealers now and ready to be picked up. Unfortunately i am still overseas but will be home by the end of the week.
let me know what you think. Apart from the bit about being nuts for paying 50k for a car without driving it. I know that bit already lol.
I went for the white one

having had a few freelander 2s as loan cars... you won't look back ; the smoothness in the ride in the D3/D4 means its a lot more refined than the FL2. off road in mud the FL2 seems to crab a lot more than the disco and it does not have low range. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Nope. Never even sat in one I bought the car purely on the fact it has very good wright ups. Also being very happy with the Freelander i knew i would like it.

Bought mine without driving one, or even visiting the dealer I bought it from. Had a D3 which was a good car so if the D4 was better I knew it had to be great!!
Tried to get a test drive at Guy Salmon Stratford upon Avon, but they were obviously so disinterested in my £54K they didn't bother to phone me back. 2011 D4 Landmark, Mini Cooper SD Clubman, Range Rover Vogue SE

Hi D4white, I did the same as you. I had a FL2 HSE but was always keen on the D3, when the D4 came out I took a test drive and was really pleased with the whole package so within a few days had one on the drive.
The biggest difference you will notice is when overtaking, the extra power from the 3 litre blows away the 2.2 on the FL2.
Interior wise its also a step up with the whole dash a lot more refined and it's a very nice place to spend a lot of time.
Notice you went for the HSE, I got an XS, dont miss the electric seats but really do miss the arm rests.

We went from Freelander HSE to D4 XS and I never used the armrests as they got in the way as we had the manual. Did not really think it was worth the extra cash for the HSE so went happily for the XS 3litre and wow it don't half shift when you put it in sport mode and put your foot down.

white... good man...
as for the never ending debate re arm rests... if they had them both sides, then great, but as they only have one, it actually puts you not central in the seat...
i've had mine folded up for months now and have reverted to using the centre cubby..
arm rests are over rated.. unless of course there are two.. one wife.......livid

I went from a FL2 HSE to a D4 V8 HSE. And im loving it. There's no way someone could not adapt to a new D4. You will certainly love it too.

Thanks for the replies. I picked it up on Tuesday afternoon and never looked back. As everyone i could only look at the pictures on the web until i could get my hands on it. The pictures don't really do it justice though. My one was the fist one i had actually looked at for real and i was pleasantly surprised how nice it is inside. It is defiantly a class above the freelander 2.

I have come from a FL2 HSE. I must admit, i miss the seats in the FL2... much more comfy and its electric.
Other than that the 3L is a weapon offroad!!!!
