Does anyone have an idea what would cause a D3 not to start and display an "F" where the gear position would be displayed when in command shift.
Its my mates car, a 2006 HSE and when he tried to start it, nothing, just a click and the "F" symbol on the dash. Green Flag came out and tried to jump start it but no joy. It has been recovered to a garage where there was seemingly "hundreds" of fault codes stored. The guy blamed this on trying to jump start the car and has cleared some of them. Unfortunatley he could not clear some "immobiliser" fault codes.
I have not yet heard back from my mate as to what is happening, but thought I would post here to try and get some idea of what the fault may be.
Just for info, he replaced the battery before calling out green flag as he thought it was flat, but subsequently it turns out it was not.

Is your mates D3 a manual or an auto like yours?
If so, it could just be that the XY sensor needs calibrating... 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

You might be right there Al !!
Just heard from my mate and it seems the independant garage are no further forward in trying to get things sorted. They have had the car since Friday. If they can't come up with something by the morning he is going to get it taken to the nearest franchised dealership.
Could it be the independant doesn't have the correct diagnostic equipment ? any idea what the "F" signifies ?

would Pete at Bell Auto or TFC be able to assist with fault code definitions?

The 'F' in the display isn't really a fault code (as in DTC) - it usually just means that there is a general transmission fault.
This could be caused by lots of different things unfortunately. In the manual gearboxes, the most common is the XY sensor calibration going wonky, but in the auto I don't think there is such an easy to diagnose/test fault.
Hopefully someone will be along soon to offer a few suggestions 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I was hoping one of the diagnostic "wizards" would be able to help or point him in the right direction. I have given him Pete Bells phone No (sorry Pete) to see if he can offer any advice.
Problem also is if no one can tell him what the fault is, will he be able to get a courtesy car through his car warrenty ? he is going to give them a call and see what the position is regarding that.
The independant garage has said it could take weeks to get to the heart of the problem
Would he be better getting the car taken to a franchised dealer who has access to the correct diagnostic equipment and support from Landrover Technical, or leave it with the independant garage ?
The independant has also said that the body may have to be taken off the chassis to find the fault

Just a quick update as I did not get any solutions through the original post. The franchised dealer has been on the phone to say the problem was an ECU which they have in stock, so will go ahead and fit it.
Good news is the replacement ECU is covered under his "Scotsure" warrenty BUT not the cost of the diagnostic work to establish the fault, this will cost him £400
Surely if the ECU is covered under warrenty then the diagnostic work should also be covered as it is necessary to establish which part was faulty. Any ideas
