Well I can confirm that far from being just a money pit a V8 discovery is huge fun, very practical and when I finally got home Thursday evening in the snow I pledged to always own one! You get all that as well as a money pit...
Do your homework on the site, get to know the expensive bits that go wrong and buy on history not mileage. A huge pile of receipts is worth far more than just stamps in the service book. If you are buying one with an LPG conversion make sure it had a valve lube system fitted at the same time. Mine has done over 100k miles since its lpg conversion and it’s fine, however without the valve lube they will usually be showing signs of valve regression after 60k-80k Miles. If it didn’t get one then walk away

Hi there just been told about this d3 site
got into d3s about 12 months ago
ive always been a land rover fan,
I do break d1s
after owning many variations
I have 5 d1s that im currently breaking
ive got a very nice d1 in silver that im keeping v8 auto,
ive also gota d2 which ive put a 4.6 into and thats a keeper, but now the latest toy is my 2008 se d3, I boughtit with a blown engine but after stripping the engine down I found it had been run low on oil, so I removed the engine through the bonnet whole and puchased a low milage 2006 lump, and fitted it on mydrive way under my car port,
it was fiddly but there is always a way around problems ive found,
engine was a good result, then egr valves failed so did them both, then maff went us so a good used one fitted,
then intercooler split, so a good used one fitted, then air compressor was slow so did a refurb kit,
all in all ive learnt alot about the d3 in a short time,
so if ican help others then just ask, if I can help I will,
cheers andy

Quick intro!!
I am looking to embark on D3 ownership in the next month or so and currently looking.
I currently run two D2s, a TD5 and a V8, as well as a summer fleet of Alfa Romeos. The V8 is going to struggle to get through its next MOT due to rear chassis rot and a few other bits and pieces, so replacing it with a D3.

EGR Fault disco 3 2009
Hi I also am experiencing egr issues, engine light comes up and goes, it’s scheduled to go into garage Tue 6th to possibly have both egr valves replaced expensive business, i here alternatively I can have them blanked and remapped solving egr issues, with no engine warning light, and increased performance, and fuel economy, is this poss? And million dollar question how does this impact on future MOTs, if all this is poss, recommendations please
Cheers Ian

First D3
About to buy a D3.
There is a slight wobble on the front end. I'm thinking TRE is there anything (expensive) I should be aware of that could be at fault??
Cheers

Welcome! Front end wobble could be lower suspension arms - moderately costly, do a bit of reading on the forum as it’s pretty common, also rear upper suspension arms are pretty common

Hi
Hi All,
Just found this site looking for answers about rust on chassis and signed up. I am a complete novice, although have been a big fan for years. Picked up my D3 (2009) two weeks ago. Have had a few niggling problems, the major one is currently with the hand break. A week ago it ceased and had to be "released " by an AA guy. I knew it was a common problem , just didn't expect it to fail after my first week!
Glad to be a part of your site, hope to find lots of answers from all of you - experienced owners!
Cheers
Julia

Hi all. Just collected my upgrade to a disco 3 HSE and was recommended to join this D3 forum by a good friend Adam whilst at the services on the way home. Previously owned two Freelanders and now need to sort the few issues with the D3 asap so that my present D2 can be sold.
What a difference the D3 is, simply purrs on the motorway; I have been after one ever since I borrowed one for the weekend earlier last autumn.
I believe I have grabbed a bargain, although the main issue is converting the dash from KPH to MPH and I feel there is much research to do here!
Looking forward to learning from the forum as I go, thank you for the helpful site!
