Just got my notice from Purnells re extended warranty. Have not got a price yet, but there is not much on the D3 that would cost less than $3,500 if it went pear shaped. I will be taking it out. At around $1100pa it is less than half my comprehensive insurance and I have not claimed on that since a cant remeber when, that could be something to do with age, remebering that is Take the road less traveled. Thanks everyone for the advise & tips. Took my vehicle in to the Dealers today for an "end of Warranty Inspection" which they agreed to do at no cost . (Interesting how when I first went in & asked about them they didn't know or want to know about doing one) .
They still haven't found anything that is causing the cricket high pitched faint noise when the engine is under load (like going up a hill) - but at least I have made sure they have it all documented.
As for the Extended Warrantee I have a quote from Meaghan which looks very attractive & I will talk to her tomorrow as by the sounds of it it will be peace of mind for another 3 yrs .
The only down side I can see with keeping it under warrantee is not modifying LR components , eg engine performance chips, or systems to give variable ride heights at higher speeds .
Interesting the finance guy at the dealership was very interested in knowing I could get the same policy for more than $1000 cheaper than his quote. He said that they only make a small amount of commission & he says the insurance company isn't making it a fair playing field for agents who sell their products as apart from his fee he has no more leeway in the pricing. He has a Rep coming later in the week who he is going to grill !!
Anyway after having the car for the day they didn't find anything worth worrying about - But at least got the car cleaned & floors vacuumed !!

It's amazing how their attitude changes when you appear with a copy of a letter from another dealer's service department.
Good luck George II

There's 100% markup at recommended price , ie $3700ish is $1850ish to the middle-person.
That's still $500 bucks , just to ask a few questions. Now let us consider a "poor commission" situation
of Life Insurance ; 100% of first years premium and 22% of trailing years . Not seen a poor Broker
yet. When these Allianze policies were $2200 back in '07 , Southern Cross sold them for $1500 . That
was without haggling .......

The guy from "Ritters" quoted $2750 for a three year/60,000km warranty with a maximum payout of $7,500 for any one claim ..........so I checked the deal on the AULRO forum and got a quote of $2331 for three yaers/60,000kms.....and no limit on a claim.
I,ve yet to decide if I'll take up after market warranty or just risk fate and hope my D3 "keeps on keeping on"

I've decided to go for the extended warrranty - I figure $2331 is a small price to pay for the peace of mind it affords....

Just bit the bullet too. Purnells gave me a quote of $2,393, after a little haggling, which was 0ver $400 cheaper than my first quotes. But the policy is 3 years 75,000k. Given that I have only done 46,500 in the first 3 years cant see me doing 75000 in the next 3, maybe I will have to try driving it on road Take the road less traveled. Check for corrosion on:
1) Brake Pipes....there are some cars with severe brake pipe corrosion at a place where it is really difficult to get at & the repair is costly.
2) Air Con Pipes corroding.....especially the ones that feed the rear AC system.
3) The Auto Box Selector quadrant & the mechanism that this "works"....signs that this is on the way out are that the shift lever gets stiff to work & occasionally the car will "slip" out of gear....forcing the lever can bend the flex cable & it may have to be replaced...
I realise that here you live you haven't the corrosive salts & de icers spread onto roads like in Europe & n. America....but if you take your D3 off road it may just have the same effect
Oh the battery failed miserably on my car just weeks after the warranty ended...it may be worth wangling this one too
Good Luck ! BREXIT - done properly.
