My belief is that you are meant to pay LCT on all improvements made to the car for 2 years from the date of purchase...call the tax office once the bull bar goes on? yeah, right!

My understanding was that any options (LR or aftermarket) that are orederd with the car when purchased would attract LCT. Therefore, you were better off adding non-factory fit items after you received and paid for the car. '11 TDV6 - Stornoway Grey.... still lovin' it!!

I have seen (but don't have a copy of) the LRA dealer notice that warns against delivering a vehicle with any non-approved accessory. I guess there could be warranty complications.
I also know some dealers have been known to fit 'illegal' accessories in order to get a sale. An example might be larger diameter wheel/low profile tyre option where the wheel and/or tyre is below the required load index. I am sure LRA would be keen to distance themselves from these owners in the event of any problems. Got this from :http://www.carbroker.com.au/before.php
What the Dealer won't tell You
Options and Accessories
Any accessory you order from the dealer with your new car will be subject to stamp duty. The stamp duty varies depending on what state you're in, but generally ranges between 2% and 5%. In addition, if your car is subject to luxury car tax, all accessories will attract an additional charge of 25% of the price (above the LCT limit). If you buy your accessories separately from the vehicle, you avoid these unnecessary added costs. Of course, the dealer would rathersell them to you. You might think dealers get a better price on (say) window tinting. You're right! Unfortunately, they will not pass on the saving to you. Instead, most dealers see these items as an "added service" and charge more than what the regular price would have been (from a tinting specialist).
Some accessories, however, are better fitted by the dealer rather than by an aftermarket provider. You therefore need to consider each item separately:
When challenged on the "discounted" package price of tinting, paint protection and interior protection, my dealer admitted that his price included Luxury Car Tax at 25%. Whew! No wonder his prices were so expensive
I went elsewhere and will end up paying 50% less once I have the whole package applied.

if you do purchase LR accessories with the car, the accessories have the same warranty as the car does.
if you purchase LR accessories after the car purchase, you get the standard warranty - generally with LR it's 1 year.
So you may pay a little more depending on the accessory, it depends if you weigh up the warranty aspect also.
I found this out recently after installing weathersheilds on my D3 at my 12month service. 2009 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE
