Which exterior colour?
Hi,
Having made the decision to go for a light interior (Almond/Nutmeg with Grand Black Lacquer trim), now stuck on which choice of exterior colour. Narrowed it down to Ipanema Sand, Stornoway Grey or Santorini Black - all of which could work with the light interior.
The one time we saw the Ipanema sand it looked good, though i can't help wondering if it's going to be a bit too 'gold', as it's one of those colours where there's a lot of variation about. Seen a few other cars on the road with a 'similar' colour but which are too yellow, too green or too gold for my tastes. Problem seems to be that you don't see many Ipanema Sand disco4's on the road - which causes some doubts too.
Santorini Black looks good but with the privacy glass might end up looking a bit van like. Also - it will be harder to keep clean.
Stornoway Grey is probably one of the most practical and safest choices but then this also means that there are quite a few of these around - will this become the new silver?
Would like to hear any of your views regarding colour choices. Anyone who has the above and are very happy with the choice, anyone have above but now wonders whether one of the others would be better, anyone seen the Ipanema sand on the road - does it look to gold, etc?
Oh and thorga, welcome to the site by the way I'm not as good as I once was........but I'm as good once as I ever was.

Thanks for the welcome...
Regarding the Ipanema Sand - i haven't actually seen one on road yet - but i've seen black, grey, bronze, silver.. Any reason why there would be less of then around? or is it just that it's a 'bolder' choice as it's one of the newer colours?

You've just gotta be a few cans short of a sixpack to choose Gold for a car.... (thankfully both the previous posters are.... ) (Only kidding guys!)
But I'd have to say Santorini is just such a lovely deep metallic color and who cares that it's a bit dirtier than common silver...... Bodsys Brake Bible

Same problem for me, my short list is Stornoway, Zermatt (again) or Inapema. I've seen all 'on the road' and the Ipanema does look terrific, the local dealers have ony sold two since launch so will be a bit rarer which is no bad thing. I'd personally ignore the resale aspect as the (new) car is for moi, certainly for the first 3 or 4 years anyway and I don't believe it would make much more than a couple of hundred pounds difference anyway.
So:
Stornoway, suits the car and not too much cleaning to keep it looking good. Hence why they are so common!
Zermatt, my first choice for the D3 and still love it. Maybe time for a change tho!
Ipanema, unusual and striking, even if SWMBO refers to it as 'beige'. Unsure about living with it tbh.
Tbh if Cairns was still about that would be on the list too but the new Baltic is just too dark for my taste.
Nice predicament I know but it's make my mind up time v.soon

I sympathise with you all. I had decided upon Almond interior, and then considered a suitable external colour to harmonise with it. Yesterday, I had settled on Galway Green with Almond until I saw a Santorine Black with Ebony in the showroom, which threw me back into indecision.
Still not convinced about the lightness of Almond. Too 'rich' and too much of it? Even the carpets and the plastic mouldings in the loadspace are Almond.
I just cannot decide. Help!
Thorga, have you considered Galway or Bournville?

I totally agree - the only colour for a car is black, with black interior and black trim.
Have racked up some high mileage runs in mine already and the dirt thing is not a problem on the paintwork. The screen, now that's another matter.747_JK

Totally agree with DiscoDad. Ipanema sand with privacy glass. You just can’t beat it. Brings a smile to your face every time you get in it, really pleased that I settled on this colour. Definitely NOT beige.

i understand the view about black interiors (practicality, etc) but after a few years of owning cars with black interior, black interior roof, etc I find the black a bit over-whelming and could do with a break. The idea of the light disco interior, lots of space etc is pretty compelling. So light interior it is - there will be no movement on that.
Steve - gave some brief consideraration to Galway Green and Bourneville - but only brief. Bournville to brown for me - purely a personal taste - totally acknowledge that it does look good with the light interior. Galway Green likewise looks a fantastic match with the light interior (very LandRover/Jaguar type of look) but again green wouldn't be one of my first choice plus my wife is none to keen on green as a colour. Coincidentally, I haven't actually seen either of these on the road either.
Dexter - i think i'm in a similar position to yourself in thinking that Ipanema Sand looks great but I'm just unsure of whether it's a colour that I'm going to enjoy living with over a few years. That's the big internal debate just now - will it be 'safer' to go for black or grey which i'm pretty sure will be less polarising in terms of like/dislike.
