Hello folks, I red earlier posts ,about parking brake,have tried hauling on wire,is it just Bruce force ?
Could it be actually require new handbrake switch ,? Or so one told me it could be actuator ,took back wheels off but unable to release ,had this d3 nearly a year first problem I have had , been in lock down for a week ,hopefully not going to be too expensive ,,,

The cable release needs a fair bit of effort to release. Use the curved bit of the jack handle, bit of a fiddle to get hold of the cable to start with. Then you need to follow the posts on how to release the EPB module. Disco_Mikey has a post that most people follow. It's either a DIY job or if not give the info to a good indie. The main stealers will try to supply you with a new module. That's only necessary if yours is knackered, which is unlikely. Best of luck.  2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Thanks for this post... Just saved a recovery call out!
The wire loop has a white plastic collar, and sits under the console: it does need a good yank... I used a fat Allen key to hook it and then grip like a chainsaw-starter....
Seems to have reset my otherwise immobile Disco, so many thanks for the tip

Out of interest, how much movement should there be I can pull my cable a good way before you reach a dead end.
Doesn't seem to actually do anything, daren't pull too hard just in case!!

Have the same issue, SWMBO called from Tesco's car park to say that the handbrake wont release!! It had screamed at here a couple of days ago but nothing since.
Tried to release using the cable but nothing; perhaps I wasn't pulling the cable hard enough?
Just about to relent and call out my non LR garage to assist.  Dave Neil

Went back and had another go and managed to get the brake released!  Have pulled the fuse for now but will likely need to get someone else to have a look at the module before commiting to buy a new one. Dave Neil

| Epb - hand brake fixed finally |

I've been having Issues with my parking brake since I bought my car. Everytime I'd take off the hand brake it didn't seem to release fully. I'd put it into neutral/drive/reverse and see if it rolled freely which it didn't. I'd have to apply the EPB and drive off a few times till eventually it seemed to move freely.
On motorway journeys the car didn't feel right and felt like it was dragging...
After failed trips to a few garages and a few months of I now have a fully working (touchwood) EPB- Electronic Parking Brake thanks to the help of Mick aka Flack
Parts changed in the process by so called experts :
New rear calipers
Genuine rear brake pads.
Genuine brake shoes
Genuine brake shoes fitting kit
And after all this money spent the EPB still didn't work correctly  until I made a trip to Mick. The last garage that fitted the brake shoes didn't adjust the parking brake or better still didn't know what the were doing on this...
After Mick adjusted the EPB it now works
No screeching and when released car rolls freely in neutral/drive/reverse. Motorway driving is smooth and I'm very pleased to say the least.
I found a chap on eBay who sells the full module for the EPB (£300ish) which luckily I didn't need, saving me a lot of money.
Some advise, buy a new set of brake shoes with the fitting kit, Dealership price was £150 roughly. Find someone who knows what they are doing and get this fitted and adjusted.
New calipers are not expensive so your better doing the whole brakes while its open, especially if your keeping the car.

| Help needed sun roof left open |

Hi ,help needed .Firstly I love my Disco 3 ,the best thing since sliced bread.
Here's the story so far.My wife had a toe op last month and now she is driving again can only drive an auto ,hence the Disco.Got a phone call on Monday ,the EPB was stuck on and not working so went home and released it ,what she forgot to tell me was she left the sunroof open and it monsooned it earlier.
So the symptoms are now
NO EPB working but released
Gear selector stuck in park,released it crawled home ,3rd gear only ,A big F comes up on the gear selector on the dash also the gear selctor where you select is says it is in drive and I also have a book sign that says the fault system cannoct be selected.
I know that I have left the roof open and forgot it so my wife was just unlucky.
Booked it in with the local landrover specalist.
Any ideas please.

Well, after managing to release the hand brake and drive around for a couple of weeks without it, I have put it to a local independent here (it was also overdue a service, needed a track rod and wheel alognment). I asked them to reset the handbrake module and even left them a printed copy of DMs instructions. The have now come back to me and said they are not prepared to muck about with the module so could only recommend fitting a new one 
I'm picking it up today so will have a go myself before I give up and get a new one!
To top it all off, I am heading to the Lake District with it in just over a week and my other car's clutch has just given up! Dave Neil

I have occasional screaming. So I stop using it for parking. Now I have replaced rear breaks and only adjusting the shoes if left to do so it might be cured.
If you can drive without issues, trip to the lakes will not be a problem. Been there in autumn and I haven't used it once. Disco 3 HSE (55) - gone

Just a quick word of thanks from me to the forum including Bodsy for his break bible and Disco_Mikey for the long thread on EPB unjamming and general wealth of information here.
My discovery 3 had the epb lock a few weeks ago and after the initial blind panic with a car full of kids miles from home I first learnt how to do the emergency release.
I've spent the last few nights under the diff pulling the epb apart, freeing the spindle and relatching as per the expert guidance given here. I still need to adjust the brake shoes and get to a root cause but I'm going to celebrate the little victory thats at least got me running again.
Hence I've been searching high and low here as a guest and felt it only right as a long time lurker that I register and express my gratitude. Thanks to all!
