Just over 1000km's out of warranty my D3's turbo has packed up. This is a new turbo that was fitted during the last service under warranty at 96000km's. So it has done +- 5000km's.
So as per my "strategic plan" of not taking out an extended warranty and see if anything major goes wrong until end of the year, I will now say bye,bye to the D3 and bye,bye to this forum.
Will, obviously have a peak every now and then to see what is the main topic of discussion.
It was, however, a great 3 years belonging to this forum and I do not know if there is another one like this - I will also encourage any D3/4 owner to subscribe when I encounter any.
Anyone knows somebody who's interested in buying a slightly scratched 2007 model D3, TDV6 S Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor

In the UK, any parts fitted under warranty have a 12 month warranty in their own right. Not the same in ZA? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

they only have a 12 month warranty if you pay for them - if they are fitted under the 3 yr manufacturers warranty they expire at the end of the 3 years - even if they were fitted 1 days befire the end of the 3 year period Duncan

Yup - although the LR dealer who fitted the new turbo has applied for a warranty claim for R19 000 and if it is successful I only have to pay for labour - but in any event, to me, it is more the principle of the whole matter.
What I forgot to include in my original post is that the hardest thing for me is to hand over the bottle of Johnny Walker Blue which is the bet I took with a very good friend of mine when I purchased the D3 - his words were " you will not see 160K km's" without any major failure Erstwhile - D3 S '07. always bear this in mind if you get offered 100% warranty cover for a just out of warranty claim
if you pay just £1 to the claim as contribution you get the warranty on that item for it's warranty life if that be 12 or more months
sometimes free isn't always best TLO has left the building.......

I think a court would side with the consumer if you took LR on that one... I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Yup, I'm also out of here as soon as I can sell.
Two months after warranty expired I have spent R16000 on disks, bushes etc. All of which were checked just prior to warranty expiring including a 126 point 'check' which is not worth the paper it is scribbled on. I'm terrified of something else expiring.
Love the car and have loved the experience of driving it. There are not many vehicles you can say still give you pleasure after 3 years of owning it.
However to spend another R350k just to get the Disco 4 is not worth it and then to repeat the cycle...
Thank you for a wonderful forum and some great sense of humour. Frontrunner roofrack and ladder. Optima yellow top. National Luna dual battery system. Bridgestone Dueler D694 A/T.

guys you should have bought the V8 and the only head ache you would have had is the amount of times you go to the fuel pumps...
I am also at that piont of M/Plan or warranty extension or not... few more months to go...
Have any of the V8 drivers had any issues after the warranty expired?

Now there's an idea - will refer recipient to the fine print of the contract - just like LR
To add insult to injury, LR Sandton still waiting for warranty claim approval, but also very casually informed me that there are no turbo's in stock, so I have no idea how long I'll have to wait until putting the D3 up for sale Erstwhile - D3 S '07. If a turbo dies after 5000km it obviously wasnt installed properly.
There is nothing you can possibly do as the driver of that vehicle to blow the turbo in such a short time, unless you take off the air filter and throw sand in the intake, and even then I have my doubts.
This has blow-all to do with warranty of the vehicle, it has to do with shoddy workmanship.
LR Sandton, if they have any pride in their workmanship, should step up to the plate and fix their cockup. they are using the warranty as a smokescreen to divert you from the real issue. Such crappy workmanship must somehow be addressible under the common law - speak to your attorney.
And as for your bottle of blue label, well you can stick that right where such crap belongs. For the same price as a D3 I can buy a tractor that will give me 300,000km of trouble-free service, but then I would have been driving a tractor for 300,000km, and not the most luxurious and capable 4x4 on offer today.
Enough said. Keep in touch Deon, and at least if you sell the D3 we can have a conversation without having to listen to your belly-aching

So your trade-off for the luxury and capability is that it spends more time in the workshop than in your driveway and while on your "luxurious" off-road trip you hope and pray like crazy that it will make it without breaking down
Then when out of warranty you budget (and spend) R50 000 pa on repairs and service
rather give me the tractor Erstwhile - D3 S '07. Dual battery system. Upgraded tow hitch. Mantec skid plate. Frontrunner rr. Tmax double headed built in compressor
