Only over the past three or four days after normal use (ie my normal use), very acrid smell like cooked brakes, saw something on here a few days ago about a similar issue - cant find the post Thud

Cooked brakes should be obvious, because one of the wheels will be hot.

Could also be a coolant leak, as anti-freeze smells quite strong as it evaporates?

now that's interesting regards the coolant leak, coz I seem to have had to just top the expansion bottle very slightly over the past week or so, put it down to very hot weather and short trips around m25!

cheers matey, I'm just off to BCA camberley in a mo after a piece of toast, will flip the bonnet to see whether he needs another top up Bow down

Did check the wheels for heat on my way to hearn bay day before yesterday, seems they were all the usual "hot" all round apart from the o/s front which was a wee bit hotter, then AJS put new boots on all round so we had a look at the brakes whilst in the air, nothing out of the norm. Thumbs Up

The anti-freeze leaves a pink stain when its evaporated, so should be easy to spot.

could also be a sticking caliper.

For what its worth, the same "smell" on my D3 was the symptom of 3 different problems

1) Sticking Caliper
2) binding EPB
3) Cataclysmic Wheel Bearing Failure ! - and a bill for 1600 Euros Big Cry

hope you get it sorted

well, off loaded the a4 and the trailer (as the residue was alot more than t'other day on the engine cover) thinking we might have a knackered high pressure pump and was not going to risk the whole kit going up in flames on the M4, over to TH whites, swindon just after 9, on the case straight away, bleeding top hose for the turbo had a split in it, phew Very Happy

did me grande these th white people, completed a "non-authorised land rover repair" or as I like to call it "slovakian HGV driver permanent repair" using duck tape and new hose in on tuesday, just got to drop by at 8.00am and they'll fit it then, oh and doing me an oil change matching the cost of the oil at Halfords (4 litres at £29 plus 1 litre free), could'nt ask for anything better Thumbs Up

Could it be the fuel burning heater? That smells fairly strong...
