Buying a Disco 4 Interstate ok? |
|
Hi there,
Have come up against the lack of choise and availibilty of D4's in WA (and Australia for that matter), and have been speaking to a dealer in NSW who is cutting a me a fairly good deal on one they have in stock....
So the questions,
- is it ok to buy a car from interstate (anyone done it?)
- I am concerned about warranry claims/car issues and dealer service as a result of not buying from them?
- I assume serviceing is fine as they I ahve no doubt they make a truck load of $$ from servicing..?
- Should I just order a new one from scratch and wait untill November for arival (asume any updates will be in this model as a result of the wait...) - This is a bit of pain is the a#$e as I have to shifft around currnet leases...but can be done.
- Buy a Toyota LC200
Appreciate any feedback.

Are you talking about a demonstrator ?
Which State/Dealer is irrelevant. We are ONE Commonwealth.
Why would you want a Nov '10 plate ?
The quality of a Dealer's service has nothing whatsoever to do with their Bill
The build date has little to do with the problems you may buy ( you new to LR ? )

Just watch out when you transfer the rego... When i transferd to QLD there was a tax component based on the value of the vehicle or something like that. And send in you rego refund quickly from the old state ....All the other stuff is fine

Are you sure you paid Stamp Duty on a vehicle that was owned by
you in another State ? I don't think so , I never have . This is one
Country we're in .

Hi,
I did the opposite!
Bought a D3 from a Perth LR dealer - Southern LR.
They de-registered it / shipped it by train & truck through CEVA logistics paid just under a grand delivery.
Went and got a Blue slip then registered here in NSW.
If it's under factory warranty it should not be a problem either. 2014 SDV6 HSE White, LLAMS Height Controller, Tinted Glass, Tuff Ant Sliders and 18" steel wheels, Safari Snorkel, Rhino Rack Platform, ARB Air Compressor, Custom Drawer and storage unit -http://www.box.com/s/jem0ilac3cner2mexq64 UHF CB, 4x4 Intellegence RWC, 120ltr Long range tank, Rock Sliders and Compressor protection plate Beanie grill, De Tango.

Thanks for the replies,
Yep new to Landrover coming from a Mitsubishi Pajero (AKA Bits-are- ...) although the Paj we have has been good... no just ok actually .
Very concerned about quality (and your comments of "what problems I will buy" Niel ), as we live out of town (Farm about 1.45 hours from Perth). 'Problems' and warrany (i.e. getting things fixed fast) if they go wrong is what I need. I could go a LC200 as they have a dealer and 2c mechanic in every second town, however the LandCruiser are not receiving super reports on quality/repairs either. Ow and they are more expensive than Discos!.
Car is over East (NSW) and is a brand new HSE with a bit of fruit (Logic 7, glass roof/sunroof) in the Gray colour. Dealer will give me the permit to drive to transport it to WA and get it registerde here - so I only pay stamp duty/rego in WA (not both or in NSW) A Second hand car I would pay stamp/rego over there and get a transfer to WA plates etc in WA for $150 or there abouts (following an inspection etc).
Prefer Nara and would happily leave the glass roof, logic 7 stereo and tick the Rear Seat Entertainement (RSE) but finding any Disco 4 HSE or SE/TDV6 with HSE options and RSE is impossible with out going tback to a new factory order. I guess find a DVD player for the kids in the back - from what I read something can be installed after market ?
anyway - what I am hearing is it should not be problem....?

Hmmm the 1.45 hours from a dealer could be a pain if they need the car for a few days, I've had that happen and I'm sure plenty others have too. Normal mechanic might not know where to start! 2014 SDV6 HSE White, LLAMS Height Controller, Tinted Glass, Tuff Ant Sliders and 18" steel wheels, Safari Snorkel, Rhino Rack Platform, ARB Air Compressor, Custom Drawer and storage unit -http://www.box.com/s/jem0ilac3cner2mexq64 UHF CB, 4x4 Intellegence RWC, 120ltr Long range tank, Rock Sliders and Compressor protection plate Beanie grill, De Tango.

Adelaide dealer said I'd be mad to order my HSE with RSE - its over $4000 isnt it? He is arranging (as he recommends to all RRS, FFRR and D4 owners) to get aftermarket ones that are identical but have advantage of individual DVD players built in to the headrest unit (ie the screen folds out and you put the DVD into the back of the screen; they sit flush and look factory fit; infra red headphones are used (no cords); Kids can watch different movies; and you can directly plug in MP3, iPOD etc etc. Brilliant. Cost? $2000. Ring Solitaire Landrover in Hawthorn SA if you want details but I think Tonkins Car Audio in the city here do all the work - so maybe call Tomkins directly and ask who can help you where you are. I bought mine from interstate unregistered but with an unregistered vehicle permit to drive it home to NSW. I needed to subsequently get a blue slip for it but certainly didn't have to register it in the state of purchase then re-register in my state. I expect to continue to have it serviced at the interstate dealership.

Thanks for all your reples,
Good points on the RSE option blackadelaide - will investigate more with the people you have mentioned.
Ow thanks for pointing out the fauts and fixes....slightly more concerned now! . I was under the impression (and told by dealers) that most faults with D3's and new D4's had been sorted.... I am starting to lean back to towards a Toyota p.
I am concerned as its the wife and kids car mainly (and will be out of the metro area most of the time) - and towing a horse float

If you look at the 'faults and fixes' sections of any technical forum - Land Rover, Toyota, BMW, Nissan etc, you'll be worried. It's the nature of these forums. And don't expect your local Toyota mechanic to be able to service/fix an LC200 - most don't have the technology or parts to do it outside of the major centres.
If you were purchasing from a local dealer, I'm sure they'd be far more inclined to organise a loan car if required whilst your's in in for service work. They only have a limited number available and so tend to favour their own customers first.

Less than two hours from the dealer isn't too bad.
Did you ask the local dealer if he could do a swap for the one in NSW? When I bought mine they did a swap for one that was in SA. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Mentioned that to the dealer in WA - he did not seem to keen to pursue 'no lets order a new one from LR'
the dealer in NSW I am talking to has mentioned that he is under pressure to swap the car I am looking at with an othher dealer (via LandRover Australia).... I have seen a few D4 HSE's - only drive SE's feel wierd offing on a car I have not seen in the flesh or driven.... has some good factory extrs for the price with sunroff/Alpine roof, Logic 7 stereo.....sounds nice - never seen/heard one with these options...Just have to tint the car when I get it....and I guess the roof as well?

ok,
Thanks all for your replies. Relented in the end and ordered new D4. I missed the September build (all sold out.....), so got an early October build - which is 2011 spec apparently
Anyway got a long wait for a late Nov delivery.
Order is pretty much pure indulgence for us,
Car is:
3.0 HSE in Nara Bronze (to match the colour of the dirt/dust out here)
Almond interior.
Cold climate pack (useless from November on really but great in winter, especially when we head off camping/travelling down south) -
Electronic Diff - for the real good stuff .
did not opt for the surround camera which apparently gives up tow hitch assist (although the dealer thinks it might be on the HSE - or can be enabled with a small mod/upgrade????) the rear seat entertainment-although appealing was struck of the wish list, we had spent enough already....so will find a good after market kit....for what looks like half the cost and can be seen in the third row!
Can wait - but trying to contain my excitement as its fair way off.
Can guarantee I will be posting more questions shortly. ...
Thanks again
