Symptoms of needing new Intercooler hose? |
|
So, what happens to performance when the intercooler hose delaminates, compresses or splits? ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

When trying to go up hill (for example) you have to be in a lower gear than you would normally. In some cases, it's reported having to drop down to 1st gear in order to get there. (I'm assuming a BIG split to reduce power by that much) Bodsys Brake Bible

Oh it 'may' also be more difficult to start if it is severely restricting the airflow. Bodsys Brake Bible

Reason for asking is that the other week when I pulled out from a country lane then floored it, the power went from around 30mph and D3 slowed down to walking pace - no lights, messages, bongs or warnings.
Foot off accelerator and all was ok.
It's as if I was asking too much and the engine was being choked, therefore I thought that maybe the turbo hoses were collapsing
btw I don't normally drive with foot to the floor, but reckon it would always do this if I suddenly just floored it from crawling speed.
Is this maybe just the std D3 turbo lag ....
...... or something else for me to get concerned about ? ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Wonder if this was the run up to the problem you now have regarding the apparent cambelt failure ?

I thought you had a cam belt gone? Or is it working now?
It 'may' be the normal lag, but only you'd know how much of a lag you get with yours. On mine, it woiuld never slwo down when my foots on the floor, but may hesitate to accelerate.
If your hose is delaminated, then it will greatly restrict the airflow, resulting in same symptoms as you experienced.
I think if I had that on MY07, I'd probably get an EML on, but I'm guessing that you won't on yours.
Hose is about £45 from Nick or BAS's super strong ones for about £80 ISTR Bodsys Brake Bible

Don't think it's related to current situation as I feel this would've been there for a while.
D3 still in local garage for cam fault being diagnosed/worked on.
Will talk to them about this and get them to road test and advise.
Just didn't want to go to expense of changing turbo hoses if there's nothing wrong with mine.
Then again at 146k and running an Alisport intercooler the hoses could well now need replacing. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

If the hose was split the sound would change and it would sound hollow all the time. It may even make a hissing noise as well

There was a site on this forum that supplied the intercooler hose which was double braided, not sure which one though and in different colours.
Could do with changing mine at some point, get all the jobs done before winter arrives.
