Auto Gear box - how does it shift?

Okay, so bit of a daft question, with the D3/RRS auto boxes in their manual setting, how do the shifts work.

Is it like a sequential “race” gearbox – pull towards to upshift, push away to downshift?

Or is it the other way around?

Thanks, inane question I know, but still Smile

Cheers Smile still... don't get why so many auto/tiptronic things are configured this way, am I the only one who finds this massively counterintuitive?

I'm happy to accept either convention (based on manual shifting, which uses both fore and aft movements to shift up (or down)).... I just wish they'd all standardise.

Aren't most (all?) sequential boxes "pull back = shift up"

I have the same issue, mainly in the 5th/6th range, as on my old D3 manual, I'd move the stick forward to change down to 5th, but on the command shift I pull back - catches me out loads of time.

No you aren't. Catches me out too. But it's really just a convention and you can probably argue it either way. For me, i think it comes down to the familiarity of the manual 4th to 3rd downshift (away). But then what about the 5th to 4th (towards) Confused
